what about celebrating REAL artists? you know there are a ton of REAL serious artists out there who happen to be gay as well.
in contemporary classical music I can easily name half a dozen important figures who are gay and still with us, and who definitely deserve more attention that Justin-fu*king-Bieber.

@boring: Sadly, I think the stereotypes are true. I’ve never found another gay man who’s even HEARD of Ellen Allien, Ricardo Villalobos, John Tejada, Bilal, Lusine, Pantha du Prince, The Field, Mikkel Metal, Susumu Yokota, Shackleton, Spacek, Omar S, The Mole, Mira Calix, Move D, Luomo, Monolake, Kurt Vile, Monkey Mafia, Joy Orbison, or five hundred more of my favorites. Bizarre. But they sure know their showtunes.

I can’t keep up with all of celebrity gossip. Don’t get me wrong–it is entertaining, but at times I feel that (in the United States at least) celebrities get too much attention. What about celebrating doctors, lawyers, nonprofit workers who are making a difference in the world?
