Pope Benedict XVI, who arrived in the States today, claims he’s “deeply ashamed” over the Catholic church sex abuse scandals:
It is a great suffering for the Church in the United States and for the Church in general and for me personally that this could happen.
It is difficult for me to understand how it was possible that priests betray in this way their mission …to these children.
I am deeply ashamed and we will do what is possible so this cannot happen again in the future.
Contrary to what you may think, Benedict was not struck down by a bolt of lightening. Miracles do happen!

They organized the mass murders of jews, muslims, cathars, ‘schismatics’, ‘heretics’, GLBT folks, midwives, the poor, rebels and anyone who got in their way.
Have they changed? Not significantly. They are still the same organization governed by the same howling superstitions. However the liberal use of the guillotine as a cure for clerical treason during the French Revolution and similar efforts in other nations since then has taught them to be circumspect.
But not always. While little Ratzinger was goosestepping his way into the HitlerJugend and industriously trying to shoot down Allied aircraft as a Luftwaffe flak gunner his papal predecessor Eugene Pacelli, aka Pius XII, was praising Hitler’s war on ‘communism’ and pigheadedly refusing to speak out about the Holocaust. (They like to give themselves names like Pius, for the same reason that George would like to be called Bush the Smart.) Later Pacelli’s Vatican government played a central role in the escape of large numbers of Nazi war criminals, and were no doubt well paid for it.
We are born gay, lesbian, transgendered. We are not born superstitious. That’s a lifestyle choice, a learned behavior. Catholic and other cultists ought to think long and hard about the political and historic reality of their cult and do what they can to wean themselves from it. You can change, they won’t change.

As a 7th grader I witnessed these creatures in action. They moved the parish priest who molested the altar boys to his new position at an ALL BOYS SCHOOL. All the schoolboys knew about it, but NONE of the parents did. My good friend was severly beaten by his father when he told him what the priest had done to him. Sad.

So, please explain to us the ‘complexities’ that led Pacelli, aka ‘Pius XII’, aka ‘Hitler’s Pope’ to refuse to condemn the murders of 6 million Jews, gays, Gypsies and 22 million Russians during Hitler’s ‘anti-communist crusade. Why did Pacelli refuse to condemn El Duce’s genocide against the christian Ethiopians and muslim Libyans and Axis support for fascist Franco? Why was the vatican silent about the Italian invasions of Albania and Greece? The catholic church, like all faith-based bodies in the world, including fundy protestants, muslims, hindus, buddhists, scientologists, and animists, is primarily dedicated to its own perpetuation over all other considerations. It achieves that by any means necessary (or unnecessary), including mass (and individualized) murder, covering up crimes both large and small, siding with whatever secular authority has power at the time, and alternatively frightening and/or seducing large numbers of people people (preferably undereducated, preferably in economic crisis, preferably powerless) into accepting their made-up fairy stories based solely on their assurance that the stories came directly from god.
That, folks, is the basis for most of the badness in the world today, whether by GLBTs or anyone else.
So yeah: His hat is funny, he’s a “former” nazi (like anyone really gets over that…kinda like being a “former” catholic), his church heirarchy is full of people in serious need of psychotherapy, and history is history.
