Pope Attacks Gays Ahead Of Visit

pope-1.jpg
Pope Benedict will be taking a trip to the United State this April. And you can be sure he's fanning his conservative fan club's flames:

Pope Benedict, ahead of his first trip to the United States, praised Americans on Friday who oppose gay marriage and abortion and called for global nuclear disarmament.

He said Americans' appreciation of religion's role in public life is "reflected in the efforts of so many of your fellow citizens and government leaders to ensure legal protection for God's gift of life from conception to natural death."

Benedict also spoke of safeguarding the family and "the institution of marriage, acknowledged as a stable union between a man and a woman."

Oh, please, don't act like you're surprised!

What is supposed to say. "I want to be known as Pope Bernadette, don't you love my dress. Let the gays marry." That would be in conflict with the paradigm that they have set up – he is just spouting the company line. And it is a company – a for profit company.

Also, most of the people who don't believe in a woman's right to choose or a gay man's quest for marriage equality – are most likely poor and uneducated. As it flies in the face of the directives of our founding fathers, we need to continue doing our job at challenging the powers that be. So there!

The Catholic church has taken so many giant steps backward since Pope John XXIII. It boggles the mind.

What about the poor? What about the sick? What about the environment? This pious Bavarian is worried about gays in developed countries getting equal rights…

What would Jesus do?

It's sad that John Paul I died after a mere month on the throne of St. Peter. Who knows what might've happened if reformists like him were still around.

If you look at the trajectory of where the church has headed after John XXIII, John Paul II and Benedict XVI has spent the last 25+ years dismantling that attempt to modernize the institution. And sadly, they've succeeded.

ratzinger is EVIL!

Last I heard catholic authorities in the United States have paid out close to 2.8 billion dollars in damages to victims of sexual abuse by the clergymen of the catholic church! Money collected from the sheeple to help the poor!

According to a news report ratzinger has made kissinger a special adviser to the vatican!

Go figure!

ratzinger is EVIL! I hope he breaks his neck when he steps of the airplane.

From Germany!

Hey, I stumbled upon this site for the naked pics of Javier! But anyways, it's actions such as the Pope condemning gay marriage that are turning more and more youths away from the church. I'm only 17, and have been attending Catholic schools since I was five, but always had mind enough not to buy into the church's bullshit. I'm all for gay marriage, I know two women who are better parents then my own!

I wonder what it would be like to have a 35-year-old pope? Some man whose foundational moral judgments were formed at least some time after Al Jolson said "you ain't heard nothin' yet."

What is also not surprising are the replies here. Same old same old.

Is it really that difficult for you to accept that others don't embrace what you do? What of those that don't think gay marriages are OK but are not affiliated with any religious or political movements?

What then will you use to throw at their face because they don't agree with you?

I'm all for civil unions recognized as law for gays. I'm not convinced that gay marriage is entirely OK. For several reasons, including that fact that the institution of marriage is at an all time low in general and let's face it, gay lifestyles are not exactly known for their monogamy. But another reason is that there are some things that just don't "fit" and aren't meant for each and every one of us, not matter how much we try to make them ours, and it has nothing to do with discrimination despite the attempts of many to make it seem so. If civil unions are as good as marriage, why make such a big deal out of gay marriage? Besides the chance to throw a hissy fit about a perceived societal slight…

Right, Seven, because you're completely apolitical and don't believe in anything. Just a fly on the wall, eh?

Unless you've never been registered to vote, refuse to attend jury duty, and don't socialize with other human beings, you're as political as anyone else. And we know that's not true because you've just made an inherently political statement.

I will never understand why all this concern about the gay marriage, when 50% of the tradicional weddings come to an end. Why don´t these ignorant, religious people worry themselves to death about divorce, and leave the gays alone?

I am uncomfortable with the hate I see here. I understand the anger, and I agree that ol' Bene-boy has been anti-gay to the extreme. I could even respect his stance on gay marriage, but that the Church continues to call us "disordered" and excluding gays from the priesthood for that reason alone is beyond the pale.

Nevertheless, let's not engage in the same vitriol of hate that is thrown at us. The best way to deal with these clowns is to ignore them and laugh at them. That, they can't take.

Josef Ratzinger, Der Pope, was not an accidental Nazi. He joined the HitlerJugend and the Nazi party long before it was obligatory. For that he was given a safe job in a Luftwaffe antiaircraft battery. Meanwhile most of his generation of Germans and Austrians were becoming burnt grease smudges at Stalingrad and Kursk. At a time when the smoke from the camps could be seen over half of Europe PiusXII didn’t raise a finger because Hitler was doing ‘God’s Work” – killing Jews, gays, Russian Untermenschen and trade unionists.

Herr Ratzinger’s strident attacks on the GLBT communities are a desperate ploy to deflect attention from the fact that thousands of priests of raped tens or thousands of prepubescent boys and girls. That, added to the usual list of suspects – high living corrupt bishops, the interpenetration of the catholic cult and far right politics, and the declining number of sheeple able to believe that "The Exorcist' is a documentary – means that catholic cult is in a steep decline. Lets all hope that it slips and breaks its neck.

Two things shock me here:

First, the excessive unwarranted hatred for the entire Christian religion. Yes, hate the Pope, the Church, et al. But why the religion itself? What purpose does that serve?
And, besides, why hate when being angry is enough?

Second: The current "Pope" is the same person who wrote that document in 86 that declared us homosexual as "persons" for the first time in Catholic history. How does it work for him to hate us so much right now? Much contradictions?

Just my thoughts. Off to work now!

Fares: you ask a good question, but I would pose it as "what purpose does religion serve?" Religion is a delusion and those that believe, the faithful, are delusional. The stronger their belief, the more delusional they are. Christianity has a lot to answer for in it's treatment of people, a very long and sordid history of violence and misery. Religion is big business that deals in delusion. Perhaps like a drug dealer also deals in delusion. Or perhaps like a video game for the soul.

Just my thoughts.

"Christianity has a lot to answer for in it’s treatment of people, a very long and sordid history of violence and misery. Religion is big business that deals in delusion." [Bob R]

Couldn't have said it better. Much of the suffering, injustice, and inequality in the world today can be traced directly to people's adherance to superstitious "faith" in invisible beings. And it's not just christianity of course: the other members of the big three (islam and judaism) have plenty to answer for. Throw in the hindus and the animists, and you've pretty much got a complete rogues' gallery of the world's ills.

People who live their lives focused on a baseless belief in the invisible (god, angels, santa claus, whatever)are failing to clearly address the realities around themselves.

Belief systems are designed by a FEW evil humans, on orders from above, to take advantage of the many good humans on earth. Belief systems are all about CONTROL.

Every time I pass a church, synagogue or mosque I shake my head at the manifestation of madness embodied in those buildings.

BTW Priesthood (of all religions) is not a vocation, it is a, severe, personality disorder.

@ Bob R – Very well said if I my say so!

I can't imagine that my entire Irish Catholic family thought that it was my "vocation" to be a priest! I knew that was out of the question as soon as I started getting horney at five or whatever. It's probably not suprizing that priests end up getting sex where they can.
The thiong is that it's not only queers who get fed that shit. The dogma is that it is sinful to have any sex without the purpose of havinga baby. That has to just be the biggest set up for hypocrisy. I think that the priests must have gotten tired of hearing my repeated admissions of beating off. Indeed everybody must have. I mean, what do you do when you're a little boy?
