The HIV-positive adult movie performer dubbed “Patient Zero” that has much of the industry on lockdown performed in both straight and gay flicks, relays AVN. It’s unclear how many performers may have been exposed and/or infected, but it’s possible that “hundreds” are at risk. That’s because in much straight porn, condoms between male and female stars are not used. At least two production companies, Vivid Entertainment Group and Wicked Pictures, which has a mandatory condoms policy, halted all filming while performers under “quarantine” are tested. The news arrives from the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, a porn industry testing facility in California. In 2004 a similar exposure temporarily shut down the industry when Darren James and Lara Roxx tested positive.

I honestly never saw the appeal of going into the adult entertainment industry. The most they give you is a few thousand per sex scene( that’s if you’re really hot). It’s not really worth the trouble and it makes it difficult for people to take you seriously. The industry drops, you’ll more than likely become infected with HPV, you’ll have a hard time starting a functional romantic relationship, and people in the industry aren’t the friendliest. You will be treated like an object. Is it really worth it?

I’m surprised at how much coverage this story is getting everywhere. Of course several months ago CA OSHA and AIDS Healthcare Foundation were pressing the straight movie producers to require condoms just like gay films. The typical straight response (inside and outside the industry) was that they get tested and don’t need them. They thought condoms would distract from the films and their performance. Contracting HIV wasn’t a concern of theirs since they didn’t believe someone would get it, even though they knew performers did straight, gay and bi films. So far, they’re batting zero. They should be concerned, should require condoms, should continue to get tested and no it doesn’t distract from the films. In fact, it creates a whole new genre. Let’s see how much money the producers and companies will lose over it. That will make them change … some.

Don’t fall for AVN’s homophobia. This is AVN’s homophobic attempt to demonize bisexual men. AVN doesn’t seem to like bisexuality in men, only bisexuality in women.
When a female porn performer tested for HIV some 4 years ago, AVN didn’t say “AIDS found in female porn performer who has performed both lesbian and straight scenes”. Yet AVN seems more than eager to rush to judgement and demonize bisexual men who perform both gay and straight scenes.
AVN – and its creator Paul Fishbein – can both fuck off. AVN appears to be a homophobic institution as far as male bisexuality is concerned.

I am probably missing something obvious– but as a solution to these issues, why not have a legal obligation to get all the actors in the room right before a shoot, and do rapid-testing? it takes 15 or 20 minutes. It won’t cover for 100% of recent exposure, but it would be a hell of a good step in the right direction.

I can only implore the GLBT community to not support AVN under any circumstances. It’s an organization which treats female bisexuality as straight but male bisexuality as gay. This enables it to glamorize and promote female-female sexuality while at the same time keeping male-male sexuality hidden away under the gay category.
It’s a form of segregation and marginalization of male-male sexuality. I know porn is not a genuine depiction of human sexuality but keep in mind that many people get their first education of sexuality through viewing it in a movie.

I didn’t know bisexual girls are notoriously anti-gay male. With that said, I do know that the girls and straight men in the porn industry are generally anti-gay, with some exceptions. And especially against men who do crossover porn. They think gay men are “dirty” and are essentially “contaminating” the women and giving them diseases. A lot of the women think the men who do crossover porn aren’t “real men”, that a real man only has sex with women, and that having sex with a man makes you less of one yourself. And of course, girl-girl is common in mainstream porn, where as male-male still is stigmatized and sub-cultured. A lot of that is the patriarchal society we live in, that many people are brainwashed into following, but a lot of it also is simply this prevailing attitude that gay man=HIV/STD/promiscuous/dirty. These hypocritical whores think that their not having sex with crossover male stars, or the straight men who aren’t gay, they actually consider themselves more “pure”, more moral, and therefore libel to give judgments and condemn all gay/bisexual men.
The main thing is there is absolutely no proof that Derrick actually got HIV from his gay movies. In fact, supposedly it is traced from his own personal sexual activities off camera. So really, what’s happening is just homophobes doing what homophobes do. Blaming gay people for their problems.

A lot of porn companies segregate male bisexuality from female bisexuality. The basis for this segregation is probably related to the fact that many female bisexuals refuse to work with male bisexuals.
