Porn Star Brent Corrigan Disinvited From Yale Pride Speech Because He’s Too … Expensive?

On the heels of bareback porn star Chad Noel’s death, AIDS-related death and its ensuing controversy comes news Brent Corrigan — the sometime mermaid who performed on the same bareback porn DVD with Noel while under age 18 — has been disinvited from a Yale University speaking gig during Pride Month.

Officially it’s because, according to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trangender Cooperative Coordinator Alejandro Bustillos, Pride is already over-budget and over-booked, and because Corrigan (real name Sean Lockart) kept requesting more (money? lube?) for his appearance, and it has nothing to do with Brent’s “controversial” career, or lurid barebacking past. Yale has hosted porn stars before, including transgender performer Buck Angel.

To be fair, Sean has renounced his bareback past. While his past shouldn’t be whitewashed, he should also be given a second chance.

This is the difference between, say, Cobra and TIM. Cobra hires horny young boys who know no better and convinces them with offers of money and fame to make unsafe porn without making sure they fully understand the consequences. The blame lies with the studio, not the performers. Whereas TIM’s performers are grown men in full knowledge of their actions, and therefore deserve no benefit of the doubt, nor pity when (not if) they catch HIV.

Do you mean renounced his bareback past on screen or in his personal life? Im not gonna judge someone if they bareback or not. It’s a personal choice. While many gay male porn performers
may use a condom on screen, they work for Falcon,Mustang,Titian ect…(Many) in their personal life, it’s a different story. They are doing what the TIM guys are doing on screen.

Just like motorcycle riders who don’t wear helmets cost ALL OF US tons of money in higher health insurance premiums, and yet claim it is “personal choice” these disease spreaders are nothing but toilets pretending to be sex objects until they croak of their “personal choices”, infecting lots of others along the way.

What is missing from this post is, What is his message?

Surely Yale’s Pride wasn’t inviting him just for his looks were they? He is perfectly fine, but so are many upon many college students who work to promote gay/lesbian rights there on their own campus.

So, what is it that Brent/Sean would tell a LGBT audience?

@sam: And how is that sad for the university? Why invite a gay porn performer with such a lurid past to speak on behalf of gay pride? What’s to be proud about him? Let’s see: 1) began a career in porn underage, lied about it and got caught in a tremendous scandal 2) he joined a sleazy video company where he did bareback videos and bedded the founder 3) the founder of Cobra ends up dead and Corrigan/Lockhart gets some sort of immunity to testify against friends/biz partners of his who were blamed for the murder 4) everywhere this kid goes trouble seems to follow, whether legal, or with other websites, partners, etc.
There are plenty of young gay men and women doing much more worthy things than Corrigan. Just because he has a nice face, cute butt and has a degree of notoriety does not make him an example.

I’m sorry, am I missing something here? A porn star to address an elevated ACADEMIC establishment? So this is how Yale views its gay students’—-as insatiable voyeurs but only with a bigger brain? Thank the Gods they recovered from that edge of insane abyss by his disinvitation.

How psychological damaged can you be to lie about your age to get into a porn production and let bunch of guys shooting their spunk in your ass and mouth? An apple doesn’t fall far away from a tree. If Yale pride chooses someone to speak, they need a person with an integrity, an intellectuality and of course, a healthy mind. I believe Yale dismiss this guy ( a right thing to do) not because of his past, but because of his self-delusion and egotism.

I think this article is incomplete without a direct comment from Corrigan himself. It seems hard to believe he had nothing to say about this issue.

Anyone who is shocked by the choices of Yale’s gay student body should sit back and look at the resumes of the HRC board. Try doing that and no longer will you wonder why they are as distant from the gay community at large as they are.

That entire board is made up of ivy leaguers who have no idea (no care) as to how they are seen by the working class masses of the gay community.

This site, though good, needs a senior editor.

Of curse we all watch porn and many of us watch bareback porn; but that is not the issue. Certainly if one is attending a White Party or a Sexpo, sure this kid fits right in. Perhaps, just perhaps, he’d be an appropriate speaker at a forum regarding safe sex practices and the business of bareback porn.

But this is a pride event held at a university; certainly there are superior role-model gay/lesbian youth to offer words of wisdom, Johnny Weir or Matthew Mitcham (Australia’s gay olympic diving gold medalist) to name a couple.

Brent has been an outspoken advocate for safer sex practices as a RESULT of his earlier experiences and I think young people respond better to people to whom they feel they can relate and who are not these perfect, “I’ve never made a mistake and just do as I say” type of folks.

We all know that having unprotected sex can spread NOT JUST HIV but a whole host of STDS.

But that doesn’t mean that every couple that decides to have unprotected sex within the confines of their relationship is opening themselves up to an STD any more than every straight couple that decides to have unprotected sex in order to conceive a child is doing so.

Just like with a straight couple planning to having unprotected sex to conceive a child, gay men need to get tested, assess their risk and decide within their relationship what they want to do.

Anyone outside of that relationship can demand that a condom be used if they are having sex with one of those men but one thing has no direct effect on the other.

If YOU personally always use a condom then YOU are not putting yourself or the person you’re with at risk. That’s what we should all be focused on. That’s what will actually stop the spread of STDs

But perpetuating this idea that any time two men have sex with each other, they are already and always at risk of contracting an STD is just inflammatory nonsense. You can only spread an STD if you IN FACT have an STD and you can only catch an STD if you are having unprotected sex with someone who has one.

The fact that everyone should be encouraged to use condoms (even lesbians sharing toys) as much as possible doesn’t change the fact that just being a gay man who is sexually active doesn’t make you a “spreader of disease”.

40 year old MD’s (no matter how brilliant or esteemed) coming to talk to gay college kids about safer sex practices (and porn or whatever else Brent has experience to talk about) doesn’t have the same impact.

Unless you are some kind of Victorian prude, I can’t imagine why you’d think the mere fact that someone has done porn or is doing porn professionally makes them mentally incompetent or unable to speak to kids about something as relevant as this issue is to his life and to their interests.

It’s just sex, it doesn’t rob you of brain cells or make you immoral or unintelligent.

There is something so self-hating about the way men who have sex with other men for a living are denigrated and maligned so easily but gay men (often the same men who support the porn industry as customers).

It’s almost heterosexist in the way it is so similar to the way straight men think about and talk about female porn stars and sex workers because often the porn stars who are the most denigrated are professional “bottoms” and that somehow makes them the “bitch”

Anyway, my point is, I think it was a shame that Brent was dis-invited. I’ve listened to him speak and while he is young he’s smart and speaks to young folks intelligently and in a way then can access. He’s honest about his past and has no shame but also can talk about the lessons he’s learned (and given how many young gays WANT to do porn, who better to talk to them about it).

It’s not ABOUT we in our 30s and 40s would respond to speaking at a gay pride celebration.

It’s about who those kids wanted to have come speak to THEM.

I don’t get the judgment about porn. Everyone has sex, all kinds of sex, how does it make you less intelligent if you get paid to do it?

I also think that Brent’s mistakes were made when he was VERY young and seemed in part due to the fact that he had no responsible adults to whom he could relate or trust to guide him away from participating in sex acts that MIGHT HAVE BEEN dangerous to his health.

At any rate, I wish that folks could think about things from a perspective that isn’t inflammatory and hysterical and maybe different than their own.

I’ve done sex education with queer youth in NYC since 1999 and I think they’d get a HELL OF A LOT MORE from the smart, candid, honest advice from someone like Brent then from a lot of the kinds of people the University would be inclined to invite to pride on campus.

What the fuck has porn got to do with gay pride? Porn is a sleazy business where performers get paid to fuck. The fucking is for the benefit of the voyeur. The performer is often under pressure to hold an erection, Viagra frequently being an aid.

Keep in mind the rampant drug addictions that drive the porn industry. Pride is the last thing that comes to mind.

This really really makes me hate gays.
Back in the 80s when friends ex lovers people from all over were dieing we were in the streets fighting the CDC to get proper testing, the thought was “how do we prevent this, how do we save lives” now its how do we get off, Barebackers are pigs and very uninformed pigs. The coctail dose not work for everyone so you could suffer the same painful and not so glamorious death. Aids should of been run its corse by now if we all followed the easy steps. But no we need to keep it around. Pathetic!!!!!!
Seriously what is he going to say to the Graguating class, dont use condomes its fun. lets keep and promote death as gay people we need to fill every sterotype to the rim. And hey if we are lucky and get aids we can get steriods so our last 4 years we will look good and spread the diese to more people. GOD I HATE BEING GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, as far as I know, Brent has renounced his BB past and is an advocate for safe sex. I wonder how many of the assholes on this thread who are trashing him have never barebacked at all? Probably not any of you. And beside, he was very young. Are we to hold his mistakes against him for the rest of his life? Jeez, you people on Qweerty can be so judgmental and unforgiving. Brent’s come a long ways from his 17-year-old ill-advised career decisions, but you also don’t know what situation he was in that led him to those decisions. You who are without sin, go ahead and pick up that first rock to throw at him.

Finally, Bill, you are unhinged. Get some help. Seriously. For the actions of a segment of a group to make you hate the entire group is bigotry, plain and simple. The fact that you are a member of that group yourself, means you have some serious issues.
