REST IN PEACE

Porn Star Erik Rhodes Dead At 30

Adult-film star Erik Rhodes passed away in his sleep early this morning, the victim of an apparent heart attack. He was 30.

Frontiers reports Rhodes was “in a very dark place, openly discussing steroid use.” On his Tumblr blog, subtitled “A Romance with Misery”, he wrote, “I’m waiting until i pop. Or my liver to fail… which every comes first.”

Discussing his career, Rhodes posted “I’m not sure how I ended up here, and I don’t know how i have survived this long. All I do know is that it can a very lonely place and sometimes i need a blog to get shit off my chest.”

Rhodes wrote openly about his nasty breakup with an ex-boyfriend, his ongoing problem with crystal meth, trips to Bellevue and his strained relationship with his twin brother. “I know he’s waiting, afraid to get the phone call that I’m dead. I know each time he get a call that I’m in the hospital, his heart sinks in his chests.”

Born in Long Island, Rhodes was snapped up as an exclusive performer by Falcon Studios at the tender age of 22. It’s estimated he filmed some 40 scenes for the studio (and Raging Stallion after it merged with Falcon). He also directed several titles for Mustang Studios.

Falcon Studios issued the following statement:

“It is with utmost sadness that we make the announcement of Erik Rhodes’ passing. We offer our condolences to Erik’s family, friends and loved ones. He was a genuine and caring man with extraordinary attractiveness and a massive muscled frame. Erik was an equally beautiful human being who lit up a room, and brought fun and joy to our studio and his fans that was unparalleled.

He was a giving person with a special wit, and he put his all into every performance. He wanted to give his fans the best he could every single time he stepped in front of the camera. Rest in peace, Erik and know that we are celebrating your life and your achievements, but we will miss you and all the special moments you have given us forever.”

Our condolences to Erik’s friends, family and fans.

Yes JASON, he is a porn star. And you can say all of the horribly shallow, provincial and, quite frankly, deplorable things that can be typed by your fingertips. But that doesn’t change the fact that I’m sure that if you die at this very moment, your memory will be treated A LOT worse. Sorry for keeping it real, bitch.

      Rest in peace, Erik.

I saw Rhodes in the movie Farmer’s Son and he was great in the film. Very hot to look at.
R.I.P. Mr. Rhodes. Sorry to see you have left this earthly plane at such a young age. May you find peace on your next journey.

This is sad, but not shocking news by any means. Where were all his ‘friends’ who loved him so much when he went through years of extremely public struggles with drugs, steroids and depression. The guys killed himself; it was a very public, years-long suicide.

      4. A lot of your blog has been about your challenges with sex and drug addictions. When were you happiest?
I have never been really happy, i have fought depression for along time. Sometimes its worse than other times. Right now its pretty fucking bad. But i just try and look forward, pretending to see that time when I’m happy again, its the only thing that keeps me going.

      5. Since this part of your life identifies you very visibly. Where do you see yourself in the future?
I have no clue, i don’t predict a happy ending. I don’t see a silver lining. I do think its gonna be either of the extremes… my successful and happy or dead. I don’t see any in between.

This is very sad. I feel for Eric’s family.

The saddest thing is that there were people, many of whom are offering condolences, who enabled Eric on his misguided path. One wonders what role the porn company, Falcon, played in all this. Did they or did they not help him?

Personally, I would stay far away from Falcon and its hideous enterprise.

@Jason: The assumptions you make never cease to astound. How do you know how long friends stood by him and tried to help. As one who struggled with addiction for years, I can tell you that my friends stood by me the whole time. Probably far longer, I’m ashamed to say, than I would have had to patience to do so had the situation be reversed. I kept using even after almost killing myself in a car accident. I smashed head-long into a cement bridge, at what the police estimated, must have been around 90 miles an hour. The only thing that saved me was that I was too fucked up to remember to buckle my seatbelt and so instead of being crushed the force of the impact somehow contorted my body over the steering wheel and out the windshield. I had broken bones and many facial lacerations with little pieces of glass poking their way through my skin for years afterward. Everyone thought that surely this brush with death would be a wake-up call for me. But, I continued to use and my friends never gave up. One day, to use an old cliche’, I simply got tired of being sick and tired and after many false starts was finally able to quit. Unfortunately, Mr. Rhodes’ body gave out before he reached that point and it makes me sad.

Personally, I would never ever attach myself to the porn industry. It is the worst type of industry to be associated with. The drugs, the appearance fascism, the ageism, the payments…it’s all so tragic. I can’t think of anything worse.

I also blame a lot of gay men. A lot of gay men are addicted to watching porn as if their lives depend on it. They have no social life to speak of, so they live vicariously through waxed steroid-abusers.

It is irrelevant whether he had friends who were there to help him or not (although I should add that it makes him far more self-centred if they were – taking into consideration his pathetic self-pitying), he engaged in reckless behaviour, abused drugs and steroids. The result being that he is dead, the outcome was inevitable. He does not deserve any sympathy.

It is acceptable for you to want a child to grow-up heterosexual, however, please do more research on homosexuality, we are just as varied as heterosexuals. @Cynthia: He didn’t die because he was gay, he died because he was clinically depressed and abused drugs. These problems are universal to humans. It sounds like you are looking for an excuse to demonize the gay community. Regarding your statement about “the gay community and it’s [sic] recent attacks on the Christian church,” this is called the pot=kettle=black. If Christians didn’t cause so many problems for gays (and the gay kids that grow up in bigoted Christian households) there’d be a whole lot less friction between the gay and Christian communities.

No. 35 · Cynthia wrote, “I have been reading this blog for the last few weeks, simply because I was curious about the gay community and it’s recent attacks on the Christian church.”

What attacks on the Christian church are you imagining? Do you expect gays to smile and say “that’s nice” when some preacher wants to put all behind an electrified fence, which is just what he said during a sermon. Basically he wanted concentration camps. The most notorious case of that was in a country run (at the time) by a dictator who ended up shooting himself in the head while chomping a cyanide tablet to make sure he didn’t botch the job. all to avoid being captured at the end of a war. Given the history, are you really surprised that gays might object to such preachers?

Then Cynthia wrote, “I have not made any comment, but this story has brought me to tears and is a clear example that the wages of sin is death. Here is a young man who could have lived a healthy lifestyle, had a real family and lived a long happy life in the joy of Christ, but instead he was destroyed by sins of the flesh. The fact that the gay community loves pornography and celebrates the pornographic industry is a tragedy.”

First, the “gay community” has no more interest in pornography than the straight community. Men on the average tend to buy pornography more than women, so a fair comparison would be straight men and gay men. Second gay men in general are not necessarily attracted to people who bulked up on steroids, although some are. There’s simply a lot of variation. You don’t need to look like a body builder to be sexy. Third, he was not “destroyed by sins of the flesh” but by the almighty dollar – he possibly thought that a “body builder” look would get him a higher income by appealing to a particular market segment. I.e., it was probably a business decision.

It’s kind of odd – would you call someone a sinner if he died from a fall from a trapeze because he did thought he was skillful enough to not need a net and would get a higher income by performing without one? It sounds like there is a double standard.

No matter what you believe or don’t believe, it feels sad when someone dies and we think of all the things we didn’t say or did say and we hope that they know we loved them. He had friends and family just as all substance abusers do. Why are we so judgmental when we all long NOT to be judged ourselves in our darkest hours~just think of something beautiful you would like to be said at your funeral, maybe that you were funny or sweet or good with kids, good with pets, good with SOMETHING….no one is JUST a substance abuser, no one is JUST evil and depraved and EVERYONE ok, maybe not everyone (Hitler, Stalin, Ronald McDonald) deserves a little bit of kindness when they DIE, I remember feeling so helpless and angry at some of the comments people made when Whitney Houston died, DIED people as in NOT COMING BACK, PAID THE HIGHEST COST, rest in peace man, I am thinking of you with LOVE xo

The problem with you gays is that you want everyone to support your disease-ridden lifestyle or shut up. Well, you live in a fantasy world, because people aren’t going to do that. That is why gay rights has failed. Because you refuse to criticize the nastiness and perversion in our community. Cynthia sees it and she uses biblical terms to express her sadness and anger, and I can accept that even though I am not a Christian, because it’s better than the “oh, well anything goes” attitude many of you seem to have toward this disgusting crap.

I started following him on myspace in its heydays. Back then he sounded a bit disturbed. Then came the blog and such and stuff he wrote every day was purely depressing, cynical, bitter rants about his life and whats happening around him. Now I am not saying its entirely his “career path” that caused this but it did give him an opportunity to facilitate some of the addictive behavior that finally brought him to this end. Every death deserves some respect and dignity for the deceased, more or less, but let us not forget that if you live by the sword, then you will die by the sword. R.I.P. James a.k.a. Erik

I just came here this morning to say, that my intention was not to offend anyone. I do believe in the Bible which states clearly that God condemns relations between the same gender and sees it as sinful. However, I do not hate gays or lesbians. But everything that I see points to it having damaging effects on the lives of those who pratice it. If I hated gay people I would rejoice in their misery. But I would never do that. In 1 Corinthians it says if we have the gift of prophecy and can speak in tongues but do not have love, then we have nothing. I did not approve of that poor little boy being allowed to condemn gays to hell in that YouTube video. Christ himself says that at the judgement many will come up to him expecting to be accepted into heaven and he will look at them and say “Depart from me, I do not know you”. No human being can really judge the eternal destination of others. I simply feel sad when I see people destroying themselves, when the answers to their afflictions are free for the taking.

Yes, many heterosexuals have also given themselves over to the weaknesses of the flesh, they commit fornication and adultery and consume the poison that is pornography. They too are sinning against God and his commandments. When they succumb to the point of death as this young man has succumbed, it also breaks my heart. I wish everyone on this blog, the peacae of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If I offended anyone on here, which it seems that I did since my comment was flagged, I sincerely apologize. I have not been a good missionary, hence the reason I did not want to post here before. I will try my best not to do so in the future.

Finally, one poster said that they wished that my sons would embrace the homosexual lifestyle. Well, as any good mother, I wish the best for all three of my children, including my two sons. I hope they are not gay because I see the heartache that it brings. But if they were, I would try to get them help, I would not throw them out in the streets or condemn them. I could never understand any mother that would reject her own children. I was in labor with my first son for 11 and a half hours, how could I ever turn my back on him?

There’s no evidence that Christianity can treat substance abuse, depression, bipolar, or homosexuality for that matter. Pornography can be addictive but then so can designer shoes. Homosexuality is not a lifestyle–it’s a statement about your genetics and how your brain developed before you were born. Everyone who reads Queerty knows someone who prayed to Jesus to make them straight and found out just how well that works.

The problem with coming on here and saying that you are full of compassion for gays is that you base your assertion that being gay is a problem on an old book that doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Then you claim you can solve problems that you can’t. If people complain, you will say that you are being attacked because you’re right. It is not a compassionate stance, it is an assertion that you are better than everyone else because you know you are better.

@Chris-MI: I cannot solve anyone’s problems, only Jesus Christ can do that. I am sorry if the use of “lifestyle” offends you. I do not believe that the homosexual tendency is voluntary, how one reacts to this desire is a different matter. There have been people who have chosen not to act on their gay desires because of their faith and moral values. I personally am conflicted when it comes to gay relationships and the law. I am not sure whether I am for or against civil gay marriage. My great fear is that the church will be next. Many liberals hate the church and want to destroy it. I am not sure if they will be content with civil marriages. Or will they come to attack the church next? If I could be assured in my heart that gay people would not demand marriage in the church later, I think I would be fine with civil gay marriage. I have been a lover of the constitution my whole life, and I do believe in the principle of equality under the law. I do think if gays could be given equal state and federal rights but call it civil unions that I could support this completely.

“Early death shouldn’t be the price these guys pay just to spin us some sex fantasies. What’s to be done…?”

As with anything, become a more ethical consumer. Demand better industry standards and vote with your dollars. In general, assist mental health programs and initiatives whenever possible.

“But everything that I see points to it having damaging effects on the lives of those who pratice it.”

With respect, you’re reading an article about someone with drug and mental health issues on a gossip site. This isn’t the best gauge of the life of the average gay person. Gay people are just as flawed as everyone else, no more, no less.

“My great fear is that the church will be next. Many liberals hate the church and want to destroy it. I am not sure if they will be content with civil marriages. Or will they come to attack the church next? ”

      1. Why would anyone want to have a marriage ceremony in an institution that despises their very existence?

      2. The right of your church to continue to discriminate is constitutionally protected. There is as little a chance of forcing a discriminatory church to marry gay people as there is in forcing a rabbi to marry Muslims.

      3. There has been no serious attempt in any country that has legalized same-sex marriage to force religious institutions to marry gay people. Again, why would I have anything to do with a faith that despises me?

@Shane: I applaude your strength. As for his blog, Mr. Rhodes explained why he had it and apparently used it as a kind of therapy, a way to get things off his chest and hopefully keep from going completely out of control. Do I, personally, think this was the wisest choice? no. But his statements in prior interviews, that I’ve taken the time to read since his death, make clear that he saw value in the exercise. He obviously didn’t have the same sense of guarding his personal life as you do or as I for that matter. However, his “celebrity” didn’t allow him the annominity that you and I enjoy. I confess it rather surprised me when he said he couldn’t go anywhere without people recognizing him. I really had no idea he was so well known. Of course, he had brought all of it on himself, which he recognized and he recognized that he’d made a major mistake in ever heading down the road he was on and didn’t seem to know just how he had gotten there. I have some understanding of that feeling. Certainly there have been times in my life when I didn’t understand why things had turned out the way they had. How did I get myself into whatever situation was. I do have one question for you: What scale have you devised to decide who is worthy of sympathy? Actually two questions: What led you to infer that I am a Christian? just curious.

I did express my compassion for Eric’s family and friends. It’s very sad for them. I feel for them.

However, what makes me angry is the condolences from Eric’s enablers. That is, the condolences from those scum who helped him along the way to his tragic end. These scum should be arrested and jailed. If I had the power, I would arrest these people and put them in a Guantanamo-style detention facility with waterboarding as a form of daily treatment. It’s not just their enabling, it’s their sheer hypocrisy in offering condolences that angers me.

Of course, at the end of the day, it was Eric who made choices which brought about his untimely end. Nobody could be on steroids without choosing to be on steroids. Nobody could be on steroids for a long period without choosing to persist with steroid use for a long period.

@Clockwork: I guess because many gay men just seek some sort of acceptance. He represents a very masculine image, one who wouldn’t get beat up or called names by straight people. He represents a straight male norm that many gay men aspire to because of the torment they face on a day to day basis. The college quarterback never got slammed into lockers, kicked or chased by angry mobs of students, or Nazi boneheads in big white trucks.

He represents the man who could protect his partner, or whatever, from the big cruel world. I don’t buy into that, but a lot of gay men do, and you can’t blame them when everyone is constantly bashing them because they are soft, or feminine, or different, and because when they fight back they get arrested or expelled.

And in reality, he was hurting just as deeply because he wasn’t accepted either–people like you who judge all day are the ones who killed him.

Clockwork, I agree with what you are saying. It seems in our “community” if someone is physically hot there is more tragedy attached to their passing. It is very sad.

I had seen Mr. Rhodes around at a few bars over the years. It was obvious that he did steroids, but even with obtaining that fake phsyical ideal that so gays covet he was obviously unhappy. He didn’t talk to anyone or try to engage in conversation. People didn’t approach him probably because he fit that “perfect” look and most people feel that Rhodes would never bother with them.

I don’t like when celebrities and I don’t consider Rhodes one even though he thought he was one whine and complain about fame and how it destroys their lives. Any person seeking fame on TV/film/etc. certainly has had to know over the past 20 years what the cost of fame is. At anytime Rhodes could have gotten a different job. He could have move outside of NYC, LA, San Fran. He could have re-invented himself. He could have stayed in NYC and stopped doing the steroids. Obviously, having the “perfect” body didn’t make him happy so why continue spending the money and hurting your health by doing them?

As for Cynthia, thank you for your comments. They are appreciated and it sounds like your kids have a good Mom. Please feel free to keep posting. It is so sad that many gays don’t like being treated poorly but they have no problem treating others poorly. I apologize for the rude comments you have encountered on here.

      *
Falcon and Matt Sterling didn’t consistently put condoms on their models until 1990(!) – easily five years too late. An industry that should have been a vanguard model of safe-sex disgracefully dragged its heels in pursuit of bucks.
      *
And who is putting the pressure on these guys to think they’ve all got to look like the grandsons of Charles Atlas? Jack Wrangler, Al Parker and Richard Locke were fit but trim and healthy looking men who managed to make memorable sex movies without appearing as if they hoped to exercise themselves to a muscle-bound standstill.
      *
Drug testing? It’s a deterrent in other industries. How about two failed tests and you’re blacklisted for 18 months? But something that shows the studios give a damn about these models they profess to be so proud of.

@Cynthia: I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and am assuming that you are writing in honesty and with all sincerity. I’ve read all your posts and just chose this one in which to reply. To address everything you said is simply too large an endeavor to undertake within these confines but I will speak to two of your comments.

      1. When you use the quote “the wages of sin is death” within the context of the death of Mr. Rhodes; saying that his death reminded you of the truth of this passage, you are misrepresenting what is actually being talked about within the context of the chapter. In Romans 6:23, where this quote comes from, Paul is talking about spiritual death not the physical one. And, you said that you know that you are not in a position to judge someone’s eternal destination. Therefore, you have done what so many “religious” people do, either intentionally or through a lack of understanding and study, you have taken a verse out of context and used it to validate your preconceived view on why this young man died. If intentional, then you should be ashamed. If out of an innocent misinterpretation, then engage in more study before you use scripture as an underpining for your beliefs. Like I said at the start; assuming you are speaking in all sincerity you must see that the missuse of the text does you and Christianity a disservice.

      2. You say you are worried about gay marriage on the grounds that “liberals hate the church and will use it to try and destroy the church”. What church are you talking about? If you are talking about the man-made, tax-exempt organization of bricks and mortor, of Boards of Directors, of mega-churches with tens of thousands of members, many of whom are preaching the gospel of personal wealth, whose Sunday sermons are more resembling of a political rally or self-help group than a teaching lesson on what Christ actually had to say; I would ask you what are you worrying about being destroyed. As for the true church, the mystical church of believers; if you are indeed a Christian as you claim, then you know this Church cannot be destroyed and is, in fact, already triumphant. Your fear isn’t real and you are, perhaps subconciously, using it as a pretext for denying your fellow citizens equal protection under the law. Something you say you believe in. That’s all I have to say. I just ask that you consider my thoughts with the same benefit of the doubt with which I considered yours.

      To Erik Rhodes, the Superstar:
You were truly and honestly the epitome of what a superstar represents and defines. Your onscreen presence is a treasure that will be greatly treasured, never lost, and always remembered. May you Rest In Peace.

To James Elliott, the man behind “Erik Rhodes”:
We all have our own personal demons that constantly battle on a daily basis. I pray that at the time of your Higher Calling, you were somewhat at peace with said demons. I also pray that you did not let them overtake you and drive you out of our lives, out of life itself. My heart truly aches for you and I truly know what it’s like to come face to face with your inner demons. I finally pray that you find peace and eternal life in your passing.

@Belize: How are you keeping it real? Just wondering. We lost so many people recently in the porn/sex business. Nothing wrong with those lines of work. I like porn but I also have known a number of porn stars and sex workers; it’s a hard business for most people, esp for people battling self-esteem issues in a homophobic culture. These are businesses that are best used by people who take advantage of the money to either become entrepreneurs or go to school and earn degrees that will help them when they are older.

Cynthia, The church is destroying itself. It is steering into politics, which will, in turn, demand that the Church compromise itself. Christ didn’t run to Herrod and ask that he force His teachings on people through political might, nor should the Church enshrine their religious beliefs in civil law today. Any Church leader relying on Senators to force their beliefs on society has very little faith in their own Father’s Word. The Church has no business dabbling in this form of power, as it will be forced to compromise, not through discovery, but through political whim. Separation of Church and State is imperative, for both sides.

I mean, read that list on his tumblr post. If that is serious, that would kill anyone. The body simply cannot process that much cholesterol, let alone drugs, etc all at once.

I wish Eric could have gotten help and found people who loved and cared for his true self, rather than just his body and porn character.

In the end, we all need to be loved for who we are. Eric never seemed to find or trust in that. And he turned his hurt inward. Such a sad end for a young man.

Dear Eric, you were more to me than a sexual icon. You always shared your passion and love for people and your work through your kindness and your smile. I am grieved by both yours and Roman’s passing away. Who would think some “old-timer” like me would be moved by your realities, but I was once “married” to an extremely well-known male escort in Dallas who also had passion for both his clients and his work which I was even supportive of (although end the end I was not strong enough to be partnered to such a person.) I, too, grew up in “the Church” which judged me harshly when I was outed 21 years ago. These comments of criticism and judgment which preceded my comment have been brutal to me and to my 3 daughters. I believe that people who want to be condemning of others should realize that their God will judge them even harsher… that’s in their holy book. I use to be one of them, but now I know that people like Eric and Roman will only be “judged” by their god. It is not anyone’s place to judge another no matter what Scripture they pull out of their magic hat.

I wish peace for Eric’s family and friends. If he could touch me with his beautiful personality through a porno movie, I can only imagine what he was like out of view of the camera. It’s in the private moments of our life which tell us who we truly are.

Erik’s unhappy road through life to an early death is not a singularity. Many young gay men struggle with depression and self image issues, the rates of depression and suicide are far higher for young gay men than any other sector of the population. Drug use, compulsive sex and fixation on body image are symptoms of the problem. Should we blame people for mental illness? No, no one wants to lead such an unhappy life, it wasnt a conscious choice but a difficult struggle. Condemning people for their weaknesses and faults isnt constructive it just mimics the shaming of society at large.

You don’t have to agree with how he chose to live his life; you don’t have to “approved” of his lifestyle, actions, choices, etc. But for fux sake have some humanity! How he lived his life has absolutely no impact on yours, so why do you feel the need to become petty, judgmental, uncaring jerks? Does it somehow allow you to take focus off your own poor choices, mistakes, and failures? Or are you just cold-hearted without a modicum of sympathy or compassion?

I didn’t know of Erik and have never seen his work. Shannon, I care. (and for the record to the person who asked way back, yes, I am an anglophile, and spelling judgement with an ‘e’ is perfectly correct usage in Canada)

It is now several days after Erik’s death, and I am still moved by the loss of one so young. I have read through these comments several times over the days. There are several people here who have responded to the sad event of losing a young beautiful man with appropriate messages of sympathy. People who understand that there is little enough beauty in this world for us to be glad of its increased absence. These are people I would be pleased to call ‘friend’. And then of course there are others who have used this opportunity to post bile. These are people who have faied to learn two very basic lessons of etiquette: Do not speak ill of the dead; if you have nothing nice to say about a person, then say nothing.

I accept that there are many, many people who disagree on a very visceral level with porn, sex trade workers, and drug use. I have no problem with these attitudes IF those same people make some effort to remember that the persons who are caught up in those things are, in fact, still people. Perhaps the occasion of a person’s untimely death is not the time to express your bile. Screaming one’s vitriol at the dead in caps is so easy. Much easier, for example, than becoming involved at a grass roots level in efforts to provide opportunities for escape and rehabilitation for those who would choose to leave that lifestyle. (And let us not forget that many people when faced with such a choice would NOT choose to become Christian Fundamentalists, Republican keepers of morality for all, or sitters-in-judgement over the actions of anyone other than themselves)

No, indeed, it is much easier to point fingers, cast stones, turn your backs on suffering, add to that suffering, spread that suffering to others, and feel that you have done ‘your part’ to clean up the world. Your words, however, are hollow. Your hearts are cold. Comments like those here never changed the world for the better.

But my opinion of your words should only bother you if, when you typed them out, you intended for them to make the world a better place. I just think that the words that are expressed in connection with a death – any person’s death – should have the purpose of making those who are saddened by it feel one’s sympathy.

Not the toe of one’s boot.

Ageism and Racism run rampant in gay culture and yet when a good looking young white f..ck start dies all of this fake compassion bubbles up.. SO TRANSPARENT!!

Whats most sad is that there will many more young men like Erik that will pass away. His death is not unique. It points to so many things that are wrong with body image, pornography and how that makes its way into minds of young men that are just coming out. Sure, Erik had problems, but I think they were there way before he started to work in that industry. I also thought it was a bit extreme to get circumcised as an adult- I think that was an indicator that something was very wrong with the way he viewed his own body.

@Cynthia: Well sorry Cynthia, but you are not a Christian, you only blindly think you are. Your references are to the teachings of the Old Testament while ignoring Jesus’ teachings, which are the teachings for Christians.

And none of that yeah, the Old Testament is the bible too; its not, as Jesus himself calls Mosaic Laws not laws but guidances, some to be followed and most overruled by Jesus’ new teachings.

And, Cynthia, just how true are you to your claims: for one thing, you violate 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and 1 Timothy 2:12 by even giving a public opinion — don’t you know the Bible says women are to be keep quiet and let their husbands speak on their behalf, oh you sinner.

Over HALF of all American Christians are divorcees. Not ONE SINGLE WORD in the Bible from Jesus about homosexuality — NOT ONE WORD, but he spoke volumes about divorce, labeling ALL divorcees who remarry ADULTERERS. Wonder if you are one of those sinners; if not, I bet you have multiple friends and family members, one you hold out as “good Christians” and yet in Jesus eyes, SINNERS.

And, eat shell fish? Wear clothing of cotton and poly, bet you do? Keep the Sabbath? Bet you have worked, entertained, even gone out dancing on a Sunday instead of giving the entirety to honoring God.And bacon and BBQ? yeah, bet you by-pass that one too.

Lastly, Cynthia, as you rationalize away the parts of the Bible you do not follow, how are you going to get around the First Commandment? You yourself claim that God gave those Biblical Laws, and God commands you to honor him; and there you go, you a simple human, deciding which of God’s laws count and which ones do not. And you think that is not an affront to God?

Check out those Commandments: you ignore honoring God, you ignore divorce/adultery, you ignore the Sabbath. You raise heck about us homos, yet, oddly, two guys shacking up, not in the Commandments.

Nor in the Summary of the Law, the Ten Commandments, nor in any of the four gospels. Jesus never said ONE word about gays. People have taken a very few tortured translations from Old Testament and Paul, wrapped their bigotry in it and justified their own unresolved hatred towards others and then have the audacity to call it love. Many of the same arguments against interracial marriage were plucked n polished off from Bible verses that fit the need of the day. We were born with this orientation and to live any other existence, just to make Cynthia breath a sigh of relief, would be inauthentic. I will not lie to you Cynthia. God would not want us to lie to anyone, just to fit in to another’s mold. We are not lesser than you, we are not deserving of discrimination, and Jesus said nothing about gays the entire 33 years He roamed the Earth.

I think gay people better find new heroes.

About five years ago, Rhodes and his boyfriend at the time, a super silly B&T diuche who wore a baseball cap tipped to one side (yes, you know the type….) joined my gym briefly, only to be laughed out of the place. I had no idea who Rhodes was , and he wasn’t my type, so I ignored him, assuming he was some juiced out closet case…..he did not like being ignored. In fact, every time I walked past him, he would mumble something, or act like a douche, or throw me some smug smart ass expression….I had no idea the jerk off was gay until all the trainers , several of whom he had picked fights with for no good reeason, informed me of his “career” and persuasion……anyway, I just continued to ignore him, which really pissed him off, and made me laugh…..he just would get angrier and angrier.

He reaked of self loathing, shame, steroids, and self indulgence. This was no hero, this was no tragedy…..

Someone this self absorbed might have even glamorized his own death to the point of self fulfillment , and when I first read he had passed, it dawned on me that it might be a fools joke, played for attention ……that’s how ludicrous this guy was….

My condolences to James (Erik Rhodes) Naughtin’s family on their loss. I too found him quite attractive and was sorry to hear he died.

@ “Cynthia”, very curious why you spend so much time on a site called Queerty. You’re here more than many gay people. When Erik Rhodes’ obituary appears in the Christian Post, or Catholic Times, your comments would be welcomed and appropriate. Please leave us gays and lesbians in peace, especially during Gay Pride Month. Thank you.

It’s so funny I saw that film last night, and I didn’t know Erik had died. Today I was making a comment about Erik’s performance in the film, and this friend of mine told me of his death.

C’était une sacrée masse ! Malheureusement on ne peut pas avoir un tel physique naturellement. Les américains abusent avec les stéroïdes, c’est monnaie courante…

I met Erik personally, he was an extremely sweet guy, given and yes beautiful.

As I read above, no he wasn’t victim of “gay lifestyle”… or “sinner of the flesh” he was clearly victim of this PATHETIC NORTH AMERICAN SOCIETY.

Built on the bases of HATE, GREEDINESS, COMPETITION AND IGNORANCE.

The day will come to this part of the world, where a naked person it won’t be seen as a sin… But you all North Americans need to go a very long way…

And keep fighting about gay lifestyle…. pornography… and other people business… wile the rest in power keep ripping you all off…

      Gross…

My condolences to Erik family, specially his brother.

Peace Erik Rhodes… thanks for sharing your beauty with all of us.

It almost seems that if one lives fast you die young. That makes two porn stars dead in the past two to three months. Not good.

Erik Rhodes is NOT dead! I just saw him today as I was walking through Penn Station in NYC. His previously reported death was evidently some sort of publicity stunt or a way for him to publicly “escape” his porn persona. He is obviously alive and well and, apparently for now, living in NY.

James was charming but he also was a liar. I met him and had a brief relationship with him for 3 weeks. All along he told me he was HIV negative but we had safe sex every time anyway. I am thankful for that as his self destructive tendencies would extend to others. I am lucky.

Passing judgement at such a time is evil. A quote I came across by a doctor; Good ethics starts with good facts, and the claims on this point are, to understate the case, seriously overstated. Articles abound in the mass media on the life-threatening risks of anabolic steroids: cancer, heart disease, stroke, and so on. What is missing are peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals to support the claims. Quick: name an athlete who died, or was diagnosed, with steroid-related cancer, heart disease, or stroke. Cases are so hard to find that the prohibitionists have to make them up. So Lyle Alzado, the NFL all-star, is presented on the front page of the New York Times and the cover of Sports Illustrated because of an alleged steroid-related brain tumor. What is missing is a single article, or evidence, or even a quote from any authority on the topic to support any connection between steroids and Alzado’s tumor.

My point being let’s not assume what he died from and start spreading unproved rumors. The fact is a human being died that we enjoyed on different levels for different reasons. And let’s stop with the religious preaching and judging, don’t throw stones when your houses are made of glass. What is perfect in the eyes of some, is flawed in the eyes of others. God bless him and may he find peace.
      Peace

The drugs are what clouded his mind and depressed him. It’s no surprise that they destroy you dopamine receptors.

He had achieved pinnacle success like every successful porn star does- meaning he had gotten to the point where he directs or produces porn films. That’s the goal in the porn biz. By that measure he had every reason to be happy, but I realize life is not that simple.

First i would like to say “May James(A.K.A Erick)beautiful soul rests in heaven, and may he get a second chance on a better place that will be less crowded with imbeciles who have no feelings and no class for whatsoever and who judge everyone and filled this page with hate and cruel judgement with absolutely no respect for somebody who is already dead.
Shame to all of you who keep parading the name of your god and his church in vain. It really has nothing to do with the passing of James, you people disgust me as much as you disgust your gods, that why all you are so miserable and have no life of your own so you live judging other people. Shame on you many times over.
Whatever he injected to his body was his choice and his right , therefore if none of you like it suck it up, go get a hobby of your own.
If you people have anything against drugs or steroids, don’t do them, but if anyone else wants to do them and is old enough to know the consequences, let it be their choice, no yours. In other words Butt out!!!
A Star is anyone who has at least one follower, I wasn’t one of them, but I;m pretty sure he had some , so yes he was a Star for somebody out there. All you people who feel the need to criticize a dead man, on a memorial editorial page, must have awful lives.
It could just have been so more tasteful and simple if the ones who had something nice to say could have just left your sincere condolences and the rest of you are just pitiful sad people who need to get educated and to really need stop having some respect for the death.
If any of you do not like porn, then don’t watch it, leave it for the ones who like it, respect their taste, look at your own reflection in the mirror anytime you feel like talking about somebody else’s job or life, and stop writing hate mail about it. Most of you really speak evil out of pure Jealousy, so keep it real and see yourself for who you really are ” Not so holy now ,right??? I feel embarrassed for all you who took your time to write such evil things here. So may your god have mercy on your evil cunty souls.
