Porn-Star Murder Suspect Believed To Have Fled The Country

Canadian police believe Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, the lead suspect in a grisly homicide and dismemberment, has fled to France—even as new details about his bizarre personality emerge.

On Tuesday, at least two body parts were mailed to political party headquarters in Ottawa. They were later traced back to a headless torso found inside a suitcase abandoned near Magnotta’s Montreal home.  A video posted online depicted the brutal murder and mutilation of the unknown male victim, as well as what The Globe and Mail calls “cannibalistic acts.”

Magnotta, a former gay-porn performer and escort, is now on Interpol’s wanted persons list.

Though a note enclosed with a severed foot sent to Liberal Party headquarters indicated six body parts had been distributed, it’s unknown whether more will surface: “We are still missing a few parts of the puzzle in terms of body parts, so yes, this is a special crime scene,” Montreal police spokesman said, using a particularly unfortunate turn of phrase.

Meanwhile, a woman who allegedly dated Magnotta tells Xtra he was obsessed with serial killers.

“Julie” says Magnotta told her that when he was a teen, he had had sex with his biological mother, who suffered from mental illness. Julie says she became wary of Magnotta because of his seemingly consuming interest in serial killers. “He would talk about them constantly,” she says. He was especially interested in Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo, though Julie says she doesn’t believe Homolka and Magnotta ever dated, or even met.

The woman, who claims to have gone out with Magnotta for a little more than a month back in 2006,  said he two very different sides: a reserved, passive-aggressive persona that would “hold all of his anger in,” and a conceited one that would “demand she take pictures of him to post to his multitude of online profiles.”

Julie met Magnotta after he left his job at a Toronto gay strip club and began making porn movies and escorting.  She says the two never had sex or even kissed on the lips in the weeks they were together: “[There was’] no intimacy, no nothing.”

Magnotta would spend most of his time on the Internet, Julie tells Xtra, describing her ex as self-obsessed and narcissistic. “He always wanted to be famous,” she said. “I guess now he is.”
