Pregnant Man Thomas Beatie Births Girl

beatieultra.jpg
The headline says it all, folks! Thirty-four year old trans man Thomas Beatie gave birth to a healthy baby girl this morning. Just in time for Independence Day!

Update: ABCNews.com has now included Beatie in its photo slideshow of “Medical Marvels,” which warns “viewer discretion advised,” right next to “the Elephant Man,” a girl with an enormous tumor on her face, a 15-year-old girl with clubbed feet, and the “Tree Man” whose body is covered in gnarled growths. Classy!

to all the transphobic haters calling the new dad a woman: if you don’t respect the legitimacy of someone’s gender, why should anyone respect the legitimacy of your sexuality? fucked up!

Women give birth everyday.

Absolutely no story here.

Just because you got rid og brests doesn’t make you a man. If you have a womb, you still are a woman. Thomas is a woman and she gave birth to a baby. Being a transgender is something, but if you can give birth, you still are a woman no matter what the state law says.

Titless lesbian gives birth. Film at 11. Men don’t have babies. Call yourself whatever you want, but I’m tired of hearing about how courageous it is to for this bitch to run to every news station in the country. Next!

The fact about this Fri is that Beatie relinquished her distiction as as man by willing and very publicly taking on the most primary female role concievable.

I highly respect people who are serious about making a gender change. Thomas is, more than anything, promoting the notion that Transexuals are not serious and can psychologically flip flop just for publicity. Acts like this just bring doubt to the seriousness of claims of a deep abiding need to change in others.

Notice that the “trans community” is not exactly rallying around this guy? No one asked him to represent, and most are reading his publicizing his pregnancy as an ill-advised ego-promo gig. On the other hand, there is a reluctance to condemn in-group. So there is a lot of silence from traditional transsexuals and a lot back-and-forth between the peanut gallery: “It’s a woman!” and the allies: “You are a trans-phobe!” Not a very productive or interesting exchange, IMHO. Thanks to M. Shane for pointing towards more complexity.

dude, every guy knows to use protection.
This isn’t a gay/lesbian/bi/trans issue. it’s an example of societies distorted view of self importance. A man or woman truly, unselfishly involved in having and raising a baby wouldn’t have needed press releases.
find me a Trans man with a 10″ dick? Now that’s a story. I’m more impressed with the ‘accomplishments’ of Buck Angel, the F2M porn star. That truly breaks defined gender roles.

Why is this covered by queerty? As a gay man, I feel no connection with this freak. Sex changes are an outdated concept from the 1950s: a time when societal pressures caused people with same-sex desires to think that they were actually the opposite sex to their physical form.

I am in no way religious, but sex changes are bodily vandalism and are just wrong.

What an embarrassing bunch of trans-bigots.
Live and let live…sh*t that shouldn’t be such a difficult concept for a queer to wrap his head around. Just as many Civil Rights leaders who should remember vividly not being allowed to marry who they choose, dismiss Human Rights fight for marriage equality as LESS THAN. I’ll be damned if I’ll silent stand by and watch you do the exact same cr*p to transgenders.

I don’t see what the hype is all about. This person is not a man. She still has all her functioning organs. I don’t understand why this is being covered. Real men can’t get pregnant and have a child.

Wow, I’m blown away by the constant tirade of ignorant (sex changes are outmoded body vandalism???) to the transphobic and just plain mean comments here. I’d like to believe the anonymity and distance of email posts do not reflect what people would say to one another’s faces but I fear it is just the same bunch of viper-tongued, gormless queens one invariably encounters when in ‘the community’.

Congratulations to the happy family.

IAW Tony, Mark, and Fri’s comments.

If you won’t respect Thomas’ identity as a man, why should anyone respect yours as homosexuals? Fine, call him a “beared woman”. Don’t come crying to me the next time some christians start promoting the local Ex-Gay ministry. After all, you can’t really be “gay”, you’re just confused about your proper role; you’ve just been misled by your domineering mother and absent father.

If you think Thomas and Nancy should just “shut up” about their troubles, why shouldn’t you? Straight people go on all the time about gay people “shoving their sexuality in their faces”; maybe they’ve got a point. Funny thing is that there are a LOT more of them than there are of you…

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Gay people, of all people, have NO business trying to tell other people how to identify themselves.
