It’s starting. We’re still more than a year and a half away from the 2016 election and Republican Presidential hopefuls are already coming out of the woodwork to say all sorts of crazy shit about gay people.
Jeb Bush has proclaimed his vehement disapproval of gay marriage. Now, Ben Carson has hopped aboard the antigay bandwagon.
During an appearance on CNN with Chris Cuomo, Carson was asked if people have control over their sexuality.
“Absolutely!” the doctor replied.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
When asked if being gay is a choice, he echoed his previous response.
“Absolutely!” he said. “Because a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight and when they come out they’re gay.”
Say what?
“Did something happen while they were in there?” Carson asked, rhetorically. “Ask yourself that question.”
“Most gay people never go to prison,” Cuomo replied.
“Here’s what’s important,” Carson said. “Why do gay people want to get married? Because they want various rights…Why can’t any two human beings, I don’t care what their sexual orientation is, why can’t they have the legal rights to do those things?”
“That’s what they’re fighting for,” Cuomo replied, sounding somewhat confused by Carson’s statement.
“Okay, that does not require changing the definition of marriage,” Carson concluded.
“But it would require covering that union as you do others which is called ‘marriage’ in our society,” Cuomo countered.
To which Carson simply shook his head and said, “I don’t think so.”

Gay bashing and women bashing is what these republicans do best! I’m just waiting for the next line of comments about rape to come out. Republicans love talking about rape…
And on this subject, Ben Carson is an idiot.
Paco
Nobody does crazy like Republicans running for office. Next year should be entertaining.
lykeitiz
Then by his own logic he must be worried that being black is a choice too. He can check those same prison stats for that “fact” too.
revjshoregoss
What an Idiot…his cyclical logic fails on all points. According to a Human Rights Watch (HRW) 2001 report “No Escape: Male Rape in U.S. Prisons”, sexual slavery is frequently posed as a consensual sexual relationship inside prisons. Rape victims are often intimidated into feigning consent to sexual activity, to the point of becoming “slaves” and the figurative property of their rapists.
his statements are vile and cruel

“Because a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight and when they come out they’re gay.”
Really? What about the rest of us who have never been to prison? Oh, I am a U.S. Navy Vet, did that make me gay? Or was it the years of working as a computer software engineer?
I was born gay and for the last 53 years I have been with my lifetime partner, married almost 11 years in Massachusetts, and we are both retired and living the American dream.
Ben Carson has proven nothing, science has already proven that we are born who we are and homosexuality is also in the animal kingdom. Ben Carson needs some education about the LGBT community.
Chris Vogel
Clearly, one can choose to be an idiot, since Carson so often does. As for situational sexuality (such as men and women having sex with each other in prisons, which they do because prisons are same-sex institutions and no other option is provided). Situational sexuality also affects (and afflicts) individuals who are genuinely homosexual. In fact, until the present generation, the vast majority pretended to be heterosexual (what God wanted, apparently), including opposite sex spouses and children. These days, that is much less common, especially among young people (who, sensibly, don’t care what “God Wants”), except for the handful of “ex-gays” who make a big fuss about it (also, apparently, because that is what “God Wants”), although there are very few of them and they normally don’t remain “ex” for very long.

To begin with, Carson is a narcissist… in the most clinical sense of the word. Anyone who goes into politics and insists on starting at the top doesn’t deserve my (or anyone’s) serious consideration. That rule applies to Carson in the same way it applied to Jackson, Sharpton, Pat Robertson, and Donald Trump. Minus the insane homophobia, he’s still just a narcissist who thinks being a senator or a governor is beneath him.
Second, he’s insane. Serious Republican politicians hoping to become president didn’t think this way even back in the 1970’s… or if they did, they were smart enough to keep their mouths shut about it. Carson isn’t just nuts, he’s also irresponsibly nuts.
jwtraveler
It is a tragic irony that a black man in the U.S., who came from poverty and went on to become one of the most brilliant and accomplished neurosurgeons in the world, should end up being such a lunatic. He’s 63. I wonder if he’s suffering from early-onset dementia.
cflekken
Honestly, you can only shake your head and laugh at this type of nonsense.
Bob LaBlah
So help me I didn’t think I would live to see the day when another one freshly picked from the barrel would be put in front of the camera and actually make Alan Keyes look like Flava Flav. Wow! I tell you the jealousy many of them have for Obama is scary. Looking a little deeper I found some extremely stupid things this painfully obvious pic-a-ninny has said regarding Obama that defy belief. And now this.
Ladbrook
Since Dr Carson is technically a scientist, I’d suggest we prove his theory by placing him, Ted Cruz, and any other Republican who agrees with him into a prison for 5 to 10 years and see how much gay sex they have, how much they enjoy gay sex, and how gay they are upon release.
It’s science… so let’s do a study. If he’s right, he can be President in 10 years, but after he writes it all down in a nice x-rated blog.
Kieran
Further proof that you don’t have to be particularly bright to be a doctor.

@jwtraveler: It is, indeed, tragic that a man who is regarded so highly in such a crucial profession (and a man who has obviously overcome a fair amount of prejudice directed his way) would decide to flush what should be a great legacy down the toilet by letting his insane statements become fodder for the late night talk shows.
For those who can’t support Democrat economic policies, it’s unfortunate that Jon Huntsman and his “RINO” views don’t gain any traction with the red meat demanding primary voters. I supported him the last time around. I’d love to have that opportunity again.
Carson is actually sort of right on one point – anyone should have “the legal right to do things”. Rights of survivorship and visitation and those types of things should be open to all, regardless of their sexuality. It shouldn’t take a marriage, a civil union or a ceremony involving a witch doctor eating someone’s beating heart to make that happen. If I want to make my best friend my legal survivor and give him “various rights”, I should be able to do that. If it’s the guy I’ve been living with it’s a “no-brainer” (no brain pun intended, Dr. Carson).
Alan down in Florida
The Republicans nominating a black man for President after 8 years of a black man being President. As if…
Desert Boy
Dr. Ben Carson is the ‘great black hope’ of the Teabaggers. He’s also certifiable. Here are a few of Dr. Carson’s most in famous quotes:
“I mean, America is very much like Nazi Germany. And I know you’re not supposed to say ‘Nazi Germany,’ but I don’t care about political correctness. You know, you had a government using its tools to intimidate the population. We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe.”
“ObamaCare is the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery. In a way, it is slavery, because it is making all of us subservient to the government.”
“My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society, and no group — be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality — it doesn’t matter what they are — they don’t get to change the definition.”
“Anyone caught involved in voter fraud should be immediately deported and have his citizenship revoked.”
Carson is a genuine, rightwing extremist in the truest sense.

All men are capable of turning to homosexual behavior. In prison, women are absent. The naturally strong and constant sex drive of men manifests as same-sex behavior in those men who would not normally turn to homosexual behavior in a gender-balanced setting.
In normal society, women serve to reduce the incidence of male homosexual behavior, and they are thoroughly successful at it.
damon459
Why even pay attention to this nut? I mean come one does anyone with an IQ above 70 honestly think this man could get elected? No! So why the fuck are we giving him air time/ attention? I swear the shit that get’s called “news” on this site is of about the same quality as the crap on the tea party news network.
Saint Law
@jason smeds: Lookit – the one person madder than Carson.
Shitbag, you could serve Life and not even the most sex starved ex-solitary would touch your raddled old arse.
demented
Ah nobody cares what he thinks. “Presidential hopefuls” are like “people who ate a sandwich today.” There are hundreds til the primaries are close, and most people will never know that most of them ever existed.
@jason smeds: Hey, Jason, if THAT is how the world works, then why do many women in prison have same-sex relationships too? Does that mean men serve to reduce the incidence of female same-sex behavior?
Giancarlo85
@jason smeds: You really don’t know shit about sexuality or anything for that matter. You ignorant putz. Your rants on bisexuality were stupid, but you take it to a whole new level you right wing jackass.
Bob LaBlah
@jason smeds: I loved your comment. It read (interpreted) just as though someone kept saying my name as FAST as they could over and over and……………..lol
jwtraveler
@Bob LaBlah: As stupid as your blatant racism?
jwtraveler
@jason smeds: Frankly, I think that’s the most sensible thing you’ve ever written, except the last sentence. I don’t know why everyone is jumping all over you. Maybe it’s just a conditioned response to seeing your name.
Giancarlo85
Jason actually didn’t make sense. What happens in prison is about rape and power. It isn’t about the sexual act itself.
Bob LaBlah
@jwtraveler: Racism? Racism????? I bet I know more of them than you do.
Blackceo
I can’t believe I used to have such respect for this man given his brilliant work in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Black Republicans THESE days truly baffle me. I’m gonna quote Lucious from Empire last week when he told his son about his White wife. They will never accept you, Ben. They will take your money but they will never accept you and I don’t give a damn how many of their asses you kiss, or how much you agree with their lunacy. They will never accept you and you’re never going to be President.
Sluggo2007
People can’t choose to be gay any more than they can choose to be black or white.

@Paco:
“Nobody does crazy like Republicans running for office.”
The perfect comment that applies year after year.
@Desert Boy:
“Carson is a genuine, rightwing extremist in the truest sense.”
Another excellent comment.
Kangol
@lykeitiz: Well, not exactly. Black people–or people of any race or ethnicity–go into jail and come out the same race or ethnicity.
Carson is an award-winning, trained medical doctor, though. He surely knows how moronic he sounds and looks. Is being idiotic and homophobic really worth the prize of a Republican nomination (which he isn’t going to win anyway)?
jwtraveler
@Bob LaBlah: them?
jwtraveler
@Blackceo: I respect him as a neurosurgeon. He should stick with that. He clearly knows nothing about anything else.
lykeitiz
@Kangol: Yes, I know. I was just trying to sound as idiotic and offensive as him. And I think I succeeded. Maybe I should join the RNC!
Bob LaBlah
@lykeitiz: Enter at your own peril. They do not believe in Obamacare, which means their health plan has a “preexisting condition” clause. Unfortunately for you your show of idiocy does indicate a preexisting condition. lol
Desert Boy
I saw today even Glenn Beck thinks Ben Carson is a loon.
Maude
As Abe Lincoln was reported to have said with regard to another sexual misconception:
“You’ve got your facts right, but you’ve reached the wrong conclusion”
The ‘straight’ man that went to prison and was sexually assaulted did not come out of prison as a gay men because after that assault he chose to be gay, he came out of prison as a gay man because he was gay going in, but because of society’s condemnation of gays, he grew up rejecting the sexuality he was born with…..until he experienced it for the first time, and his true sexual identity was released from it’s unholy bondage….and he went to the courts and said: “LET MY PEOPLE GO”!
Maude
@lykeitiz:
lykeitiz……We have enough crazy shit to deal with, without your moronic idiocy.
Maude
@Desert Boy:
Your attempts at logic are sophomoric and worse, illogical on their face.
If you must get carried away with your emotional garbage, try at least not to embarrass yourself with grasping at straws.
Carson is as wrong as he can be about Gays, that makes him ignorant on that subject.
Trying for more when you have it all already is, a sign of mental deterioration.
Maude
@Desert Boy:
“loon”? When you over state your case, you lose your case.
For Gawd sakes gentlemen, if you must color, at least try to stay inside the lines.
