Prison Guard’s Anti-Gay Workplace Settlement Wrapping Up After Nearly 10 Years

Robert Ranger, a former Ottawa prison guard, has been awarded $244,242 plus interest after being forced to leave his job in 2002 because of the “poisonous” work environment created by his homophobic superior Mark Grady. The sum does not include damages, which is good, because after battling his old bosses for more than a decade, $244k seems like a paltry sum to hand over for a guy who had to choose between ending a 20-year career in correctional work and getting called a “cocksucker.”
