Prisoner Facing Hate Crime Charges For Killing This Cincinnati Man

beauchomp

“A man already behind bars [28-year-old Jerry Jones] is now facing charges for allegedly killing a gay man in a hate crime six years ago. Gregory Beauchamp [pictured] was shot and killed in Over-the-Rhine on New Year’s Eve 2002 at the intersection of Vine Street and West Liberty [in Cincinnati]. According to witnesses, a man yelled anti-gay slurs at three men wearing women’s clothing, then opened fire. Beauchamp was 21-years-old when he was killed. Until now, the identity of the shooter has remained a mystery.” ALSO: “Beauchamp’s murder led city council to expand the hate crime law to include sexual orientation.” [WPCO]

      Not really that surprising. That block in Over-the-Rhine is one of the most dangerous parts of the city.

      Over the Rhine is a wonderful band, by comparison.

      It’s sad that people have to die before politicians decide that maybe it would be a good idea extend hate crime laws to include sexual orientation. I mean, not that it would have made a difference in the murder itself, obviously the “murder is a crime” law didn’t stop it from happening, but the trial could of been different.

      @mick:

      Interesting huh?

      If Gregory had been a white victim of black homophobia, those 258 views would have been 258 comments….and counting.

      Telling and sad.

      Maybe. It IS sad these cases are underreported, and disproportionate where race is involved most definitely.

      I don’t know the percentage of black-on-black crime or the black-on gay black crime (even if this guy was gay-he was shot while hanging around a few drag queens..) but the non-reporting of these crimes is infamous in Chicago, which is terrible and racist.

      What about white-on-white crime or the white-oh-gay crime that goes totally ignored?

      White crime is rarely reported at all let alone commented on.

      Boys, I think it is more likely that people are fearful of commenting because the hysterical accusations of being ‘racist’ be screamed,

      So, people just look and pass on, not wanting to be abused.

      @Tallskin:
      Are you kidding me?

      Why don’t you tell us about how it was his brainwashing from living in a Christian society that is responsible for it.

      Don’t try to play a bigger victim than the actual dead person, okay? It’s unbecoming.

      You know, I’m white so I don’t get to see this too often.

      Do they always discriminate against you and then try to blame YOU for making them feel bad about it?
