The American Family Association has a long history of inciting riots against "pro-gay" companies. They've got their on-and-off hate affair with Wal-Mart. And of course there's their "victorious" campaign against Ford's dalliance with GLAAD.
But how do the "traditional" family focused rabble rousers know which brands to brand enemies of their fundamentalist state? They subject themselves to hours and hours of gay-endorsed television, of course. The group's project summary:
Between February 11 through May 5, American Family Association monitored the top eight prime-time network programs featuring lead or supporting homosexual characters. These programs were specifically identified by the activist-homosexual group GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) as GLAAD Media Award winners, or as showcasing leading or supporting homosexual characters.Of the eight shows - The Simpsons, ER, The Office, The Class, Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy - four air on the Disney-owned ABC. That means the AFA's going to have to add the media giant to its list of offenders, which already includes Ford, Verizon and Quaker Oats. The AFA's got quite a battle ahead.
If they're really serious about taking down fag-friendly firms, AFA members should again take GLAAD's advice: the media watch dog has a rundown of all the gay pride month televisuals.

Donald Wildmon, founder of the American Family Association has his own radio program called the AFA Report. We think that is is safe to assume this an entirely unbiased news program.
On a recent show, Wildmon addressed Soulforce’s current cross-country anti-homophobic bus tour. We’re still a bit disturbed that these bitches aren’t traveling the country in style. But we digress...
Wildmon had an interesting exchange with one of AFA’s editors, Rusty Benson. Upset that Soulforce is protesting Christian schools that ban the “enrollment of GLBT students,” they both hypothetically suggested that they invade gay bathhouses all over the U.S. Just what we need; horny old closeted men interupting our sex lives.
Unsurprisingly, these guys showed off their intolerant side.
JACKSON: Yeah. Well, we know where the media would have its sympathies in that case. Of course, and it wouldn't be done, anyway. But these people, it just reinforces as you say, Don, what you just said. They regard Christianity, they regard biblical teaching, as the source of their problems. And what they're demanding is no less than you Christians stop teaching that homosexuality is a sin. WILDMON: Stop -- stop -- stop preaching from the Bible.JACKSON: That's right.
BENSON: Yeah, I mean, this is -- this is what you call -- what? -- chutzpah. This is -- this is --
WILDMON: That's a Jewish word, right? Be careful.
Yes, be careful. The Jews are just as bad as the homos. And we're sure there's nothing worse than a gay Jew who speaks nonstop Yiddish with a lisp.

Feel like you just read about the American Family Association boycotting the Ford Motor Company, like, just yesterday? While it wasn’t days ago, it was only a few short months back. Yes, the AFA has reinstated their boycott. And this time they’re bringing along 44 of their best (read: homophobic) friends - organizations all seemingly with either “family” or “marriage” in their names. All because Ford is still supporting the gay community.
They've also added an entire laundry list of specific reasons as to why they’re so ticked at Ford.
One of the reasons listed is Ford’s sponsorship of the London Mardi Gras. And, in order to show to their angelic supporters the debaucheries of gays they don’t link to just any old Mardi Gras site. They link to a gay porn site.
We just wonder why is the American Family Association so concerned about what happens in the United Kingdom?
Still, we’re glad the AFA is back in the news. They’d been so quiet after their Book of Daniel boycott, that we were starting to worry. We’ve missed them so.

When NBC announced Britney Spears would play a Christian Fundamentalist who hosts a cooking show called “Cruci-fixin’s” on Will & Grace, we knew there’d be an uproar, but, well, not because of this: the American Family Association (we don’t know about you, but we’ve missed them terribly lately) is all up in arms about her character.
"To further denigrate Christianity, NBC chose to air [the episode] the night before Good Friday," AFA Founder and Chairman Donald E. Wildmon complained."NBC does not treat Jews, Muslims or other religions with such disrespect. Yet the network demonstrates a deep of hostility toward followers of Christ."
Of course, we’re horribly offended as well. Not about the crucifix thing, though (it’s a JOKE, people.) No, we’re just offended that we have to sit through a half hour of Britney Spears trying to act.
Let’s just hope she spares us with her singing.

NBC has cancelled the Aiden Quinn drama about a pill-popping priest with a gay son that met fire from conservative Christian groups. Naturally, groups such as Focus on the family and the American Family Association are gloating.
AFA Chairman Donald E. Wildmon said NBC's decision to cancel the program is instructive. "This shows the average American that he doesn't have to simply sit back and take the trash being offered on TV, but he can get involved and fight back with his pocketbook," he said.
Of course, if you know Hollywood you know they only pray to one God: the green one, and the real reason the show was axed was, like 90 % of shows lucky enough to make it to the air, that it wasn’t bringing in the book of numbers, so to speak. Still, it’s always sad to see a quality show end, even if it did star the guy from Desperately Seeking Susan.

An Indiana NBC affiliate has decided to remove the new drama The Book of Daniel from it’s line up because of several complaints it’s received from viewers (read: one batshit televangelist told his audience to write). The new show stars hottie Aiden Quinn as a conflicted, pill-popping Episcopal priest with a, shock of shocks, a gay son.
The AFA says NBC is promoting the show as a serious drama about Christians, but calls Quinn’s character “a drug-addicted Episcopal priest whose wife depends heavily on her midday martinis." In a statement, AFA Chairman Donald E. Wildmon said, “We are tired of NBC’s anti-Christian bigotry.” The group also points to a gay character as another problem with the show.
Actually, we at Queerty encourage stupid moves like this by the anti-gay lobby. More publicity for a quality drama that explores actually complex issues. Hell, a few more boycotts and the show might reach number one. Actually, we’re hoping the American Family Association boycotts us.

Yawn. Another week, another gay-related boycott from The American Family Association. This time they’re turning their love and attention to NBC and the new dramatic series The Book of Daniel. The show is about a druggie Priest and his family who seem to have so many more problems than those ultra-dysfunctional Fishers on Six feet Under.
We learn the AFA office is in desperate need of a thesaurus:
The writer for the series is a practicing homosexual. The homosexual son will be network prime-time's only regular male homosexual character in a drama series.
They always seem to go out of their way in calling queers “homosexuals” instead of “gay.” But they know a thing or two about pandering to their right wing supporters with effective buzzwords. After all, this is the same organization that changed its name from the bitchy-sounding Federation of Decency to the warm and fuzziness of the American Family Association.
Oh and The Book of Daniel? We’ll be watching.
