A Visual Note on Shame...
Is Google Trying To Tell Us Something?
We had a bit of trouble finding an appropriate image for an earlier post: "Faggot Crackers Still Racist, Say Negro Nancies".
A rainbow flag seemed a bit trite, so we went on a mad search for the perfect visual compliment. Now, we use a variety of image sources, one of which is Google. As part of our quest, we googled "shame" to see if perhaps one of the correspondent images were suited to our desired aesthetic. They weren't...
We were intrigued, however, by the first image that popped up. What was it? Dive into the jump and find out. It's totally NSFW and even more perplexing....

Yes, but this image came from Don Shewey's website. Don is a former theater critic at the Village Voice, a teacher of Body Electric, and a long time gay activist. The photo was posted in counterpoint to a photo of American troops humiliating someone they had captured — his pants were down around his ankles, and his underclothes were bloodied. And the caption that went with the two photos was a definition of shame that made it clear the photo of the actions of the soldiers was shameful, and the photo of the men rimming was anything but. Of course, Google picked up on the word Shame, it being the first word on the page, and right above the photo of the rimming men. But in full context, it is clear that rimming is not shameful. In fact, as far as I am concerned, it is quite delightful thank you very much.
