So That's What U-G-L-Y Looks Like...
Racist Army Letters Speak For Themselves

With regard to this morning's post on Sgt. Marcia Ramode's hate letters to Corey Andrew with regard to Corey's inquiries on gay soldiers. It's pretty gross.

Oh boy, there's so much here, we can't even get around it. Does Ramode realize that US military took land from her ancestors and then marched them off to die? Maybe she forgot. Also, we were confused by that whole gay land thing.

At first we thought she meant Sweden, then we remembered that Corey's black and that there are no black people in Sweden. Luckily, a subsequent email - which we've included after the jump - clears it all up: gay land's in Africa! The birthplace of man and all of civilization.

And, according to Ramode, the same place they apparently do the tango (geography's never been the army's strong suit) and some dance called the "wango".

Excuse us while we wretch.

Although, we're still disappointed by Corey's digs at Ramode's Indian ancestry.

Although it is deplorable that a hate filled e-mail like this could be sent by an actual recruiter for the Unites States army, I think the fact that the person used such idiotic language (not to mention, completely erroneous spelling) counts as a win for our side in this.

I couldn't help but laugh at lines like "do you gay voodoo limbo tango.". Seriously? This is nothing, most people will read this and see what idiots there are in the army, and that recruiting isn't exactly up to par.

I don't know, bigger hurt for the Army than for the homos, I say.

This is just one more reason why I no longer support this all volunteer military. It was a creation of arch criminal Richard Nixon and makes it so much easier for politicians to be careless and cavalier about war. They're nothing but professional mercenaries, our 20th century American version of the Hessians. It seems we've already shaken all the Lynndie England's and Charles Graner's (of Abu Grhaib fame) out of the trees, now we're scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel accepting convicts, racists and other assorted sociopaths like Sgt. Commode, I mean Ramode, into the our military. I for one think we should have a return to the draft and service by all America's citizens to avoid the overload with this kind of creature. What I would love to see is every gay member of the military identify themselves to their CO's (estimates are there are 65,000+ gay/lesbian service members) and accept discharges and all gay/lesbian Americans decline military service until DADT is history. Let's see how well the Pentagon does without us now. As for Ramode, she'll probably end up drunk and dead on her reservation once her services are no longer needed, like any day now.

They were both wrong. Andrew is the first one who insulted her hertiage, by making snide comments about a rain dance. But she should not have used her official email account to respond to his juvenile rants. He obviously wanted to cause trouble. I do not give him a waiver simply for being gay, he was being equally as vile as she.

All of this sickens my stomach. I do not think there should have been any jibes at this woman's native American race; nor should she have made any jibes at his race. Both jibes are ugly.

Something that stood out to me, though. Marcia challenged the spelling of whoever it was she was responding to. However, I have a problem with Marcia's grammar. She does not seem to know how to write a complete sentence. Spelling v. grammar? Well... they both suck.

So maybe Marcia would like to go back and argue reasoned logic; and, maybe she would like to try to do so in a complete sentence.

William,
A reference to Native American culture doesn't have to be a jibe. Heck, that quote about half naked prancing applies to most people at burning man...

It was a jibe at the logic/consistency of her position - which you apparently have no problem jibing - along with her "sucky" spelling and grammar, as you say...

If a Scottsman whined about men in other cultures running around in "dresses", he should be smacked with the reality of his own skirt wearing ancestors... I'm pointing out hypocrisy, not comdemning either...

Look at the full story. He was egging her on so as to elicit a strong reaction, so he's not without blame either. The military, right or wrong, has adopted a certain stance towards open homosexuality. He, as an openly gay person, flaunts this and expects to not get told challenged? It's right up there with him going to a Klan meeting and flaunt being black. Sure, he has the right, but it doesn't make him smart.

Bottom line? They're both idiots. No need to get up in arms about it.

Corey Andrew says:

This is Corey Andrew. I would like to thank those of you who have supported my unfortunate encounter with Sergeant Ramode's email assault. I would also like to clear up once and for all that I did not in any way "egg" her on as one blogger suggests, in an attempt to elicit a reaction. I was looking for a job and had simply posted my resume on an established resume search engine named Career Builders.com when I was solicited nearly 10 times through military "bate and switch" job offers. Finally answering one, I genuinely inquired as there are non-military, civilian employment opportunities that do exist within the US Military.

The response given to me by Sergeant Ramode is what should be examined, not how she may have arrived at making such a response. I will not be a scapegoat for a grown woman, who happens to be a high ranking official in our country's Military, who didn't have the common sense to realize that her remarks were both hateful and demoralizing.

As for the Native American "Rain Dance" comment. I take full responsibility for making the statement, however, when it appeared online and in the newspapers it was taken grossly out of context. It was actually part of an extremely positive remark I made about Native Americans being traditionally very supportive of homosexuality in their culture and "less tolerant of fools." This statement was then followed by "So take that to your next...." Was it a sophomoric choice on my part? Perhaps. But it appears nearly at the end of a 3 day email exchange in which I held my composure. Finally as it came to a close, emotion shifted me a bit off my axis and this comment was the result.

In comparison to the insults I endured through this exchange, the "Rain Dance" comment is quite innocuous. I hope this will give clarity to the true intent, at least behind my portion of the dialogue.

Absolutely overwhelming. Mind-boggling. Apart from the fact that she's clearly uneducated, there is so much vileness here that I have to wonder if it's hatred plain and simple or if it's mental illness. Besides the incoherence and viciousness, there's the total disregard for the probable consequences.

In any event, she ought to be removed from "service." I have to wonder how many similarly bigoted events preceded this one.

Vince says:

No doubt Sergeant Ramode was severely out of line. However, I’m puzzled as to why Corey Andrew Powell’s reference to “pedophilic predators” “begging” teenagers to join the military gets a complete pass. I see the implications about the sergeant as being what provoked the over-the-top exchange — not the all capitals second email sent by Ramode.
