Bush Official Signs On To Anti-Gay Congress
European Politicos, Liberal Catholics Raise Fists

ellenSH.jpg
Not only will this weekend's The World Congress of Families feature such speakers as Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute president Austin Ruse and Enrique Gomez Serrano of Family Network Mexico, the orgy of religious righteousness will also host America's Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration: Ellen Sauerbrey (pictured, channeling Madeleine Crabb).

As a member of the Bush Administration, Sauerbrey's presence has ruffled a few feathers. Liberal group Catholics for a Free Choice and nineteen European Parliamentarians sent Sauerbrey a letter in an effort to curb her politically-charged endorsement...

We urge you to withdraw from this conference because your participation provides an official U.S. government stamp of approval to extremist and intolerant views held by some participants and attendees. These extremist and intolerant views include prejudiced attitudes toward foreigners, people from other religions, homosexuals, and the inclusive vision of what represents a family unit that has been developed by the United Nations and the European Union.
Unfortunately Sauerbrey - who also appeared at 2004's WCF - chose to ignore their pleas.

It's also worth mentioning that the 69-year old conservative politico penned a piece asking the UN to push for family rights, but with "responsibility":

My perception is that this prevailing vision at the U.N. is one that is based on rights, but rights without responsibility. Family, whatever you want it to be. Sexual freedom, anything goes.
Because an endorsing an unabashedly anti-gay conference screams "Responsible!"

I don't know who the hell Madelaine Crabb is, but I'd have to say Rue McLanahan. Of course, that's the only thing this beeatch has in common with our Rue.

OMG! I wondered what happened to this dumb cunt-- I lived in Maryland when she ran for governor twice and lost, the first time by a margin so small she insisted it was because of vote fraud. Claiming she had a verified list of dead people who voted for her opponent, she sued, but it turned out her list was wrong except for a handful of votes that weren't enough to swing the election her way. The rematch 4 years later she lost more decisively, because the general populace had tired of her "Ellen Sourgrapes" behavior. However, she did pave the way for Bob Ehrlich to win one term four more years later.

It totally figures she would end up in Bush's coterie of people appointed to positions for which they lack qualifications. After a bit of Googling, I see that she also ought to have left her job in January, because she was installed by recess appointment in 2006 after the Senate failed to vote on her approval. IIRC, the way recess appointments work, the only way she can be continuing in the new Congressional term is if she serves withoiut pay, which is a small comfort at least.

FYI for those of you who don't know: The World Congress of Families was started and is run by the Mormon church. It is headquartered at Brigham Young "University" in Provo, Utah... (just down the street from me--40 miles).
