Snakes On A Plane: You Wasted $11, Didn't You?

200608-snakesonaplane.jpg

We've fretted all weekend over whether we want to hear the answer to this question, but certainly some of you out there want to: Who bought into the hype and went to see Snakes On A Plane? And who, among that crowd, went to the advanced 10pm screening on Thursday night? Come out, come out wherever you are. We won't make fun of you too much. We just want to know whether this here Internet thingy can generate some much unsubstantiated hype that Hollywood just might build a business model out of it. Take it to the comments!

Honestly, the last time I got carried away into an overhyped film, it was The Blair Witch Project, but that was a satisfying experience, at least (twice, if I remember correctly, because the second time I saw it, I took a grad student ex of mine who hadn't had his head out of books in about six months before the film came out, so he hadn't heard any of the hype and the film scared the fuck out of him).

Outside of that, I have built a lifestyle out of strongly resisting entertainment industry hype (well, marketing hype of any kind, really), so it's likely that I will never see any motherfuckin' snakes on any motherfuckin' plane.

I figured it would be a really stupid and I honestly got dragged to see it with friends and reluctantly gave in because sometimes seeing stupid movies can be fun. I expected so little of it I actually only paid $6 for my ticket by going to the self serve kiosk at the theater and purchasing a child ticket.

I was quite surprised when I left the movie satisfied. While not anything great, it was better than my expextations and was fun to watch. I liked that it was different from all the hugely marketed blockbusters that im sick of that spend almost their entire $100 million+ budgets on special effects.

Went and saw it and loved it.

It was 100% suspension of disbelief. Turn that logic circuit off in your head and you'll have a great time. Uncross your arms, unpurse your lips and laugh AT the lines, completely hokey CGI and the completely 2D characters.
