And A Tranny Scared Our Pants Off...

corralesL1.jpgcorralesR.jpg
Ruben Solorio has been arrested in connection with the 2005 murder of Arizona-based drag queen, Amancio Corrales. Hooray!

• Get the low down on Sao Paulo Pride parties. Be sure to send us a postcard. And a Brazilian.

David Banda's the cutest of all Madonna's "stolen" African babies!

Focus on The Family seems to think that New York state law defines marriage as "between a man and a woman". Good As You calls "bullshit".

• The United Kingdom's foremost expert on sex change operations, Dr. Russell Reid, has been found guilty of professional misconduct after rushing five patients into surgery without following proper procedure.

Scream screenwriter and known homosexual Kevin Williamson has a new soap: Hidden Palms. AfterElton describes it as a blend between The OC and Desperate Housewives. Sounds juicy shitty interesting...

• It's Fleet Week and this sailor's looking for some action. Also, has a crush on his drill sergeant, no foresight (he included his picture).

• Some people may take offense at Best Week Ever calling this man a "scary tranny", but nothing else fits. Except, maybe, for Norman Bates.

We're thrilled to itty bits over the news that French electronic duo Justice are releasing a new album!

It's not that we don't love their 2003 remix of Simian's "Never Be Alone", but we've just been itching for a new dance club classic. We're not sure how their fresh full-length, , stands up to their previous aural offerings, but we're digging their first single, D.A.N.C.E., which we've included above.

For those few of you who haven't heard the boys' take on Simian's single, we've included the video after the jump. And, to all of you going out this weekend, be sure to have a D.A.N.C.E. for us...

BTW: drops on June 18th. Get excited!

In Four Minutes Or Less...

Ever wonder what goes into the making of a drag performer? Well, now's your chance. The Power Issue feature subject Adrian L. Acosta has passed along this video of his very queer transformation into loud mouthed Amnesia Sparkles. With a Madonna soundtrack, naturally.

Invasion of The Freaky Rap Machines

We don't know about you guys, but we're all sorts of excited about stepping out this Friday evening. Not only do we need to let off some steam, but we're looking forward to getting down with New York City's freaky population. As 80s-era rap outfit Whodini explains, "The Freaks Come Out At Night". That way they can hide in shadows and surprise you with their freakiness.

And, because we're so pumped about this evening's forthcoming festivities, we've included Whodini's "Rap Machine" after the jump. Computers may not be able to replace rap, but they make hot beats...

Plus, Beyonce Loves Her Drag Divas!

Do queer singers have a responsibility to sing about queer things? According to Jake Shears and his Scissor Sisters, no. The American popsters recently sat down with Me-me-me to discuss the art of queering it up. Or, rather, not queering it up.

Debating whether or not the band's so-called queerness informs their music, Shears insists,

I think it’s shaped our aesthetic. There are no gay lyrics, it’s all totally coded. If you’re looking for a gay message, you totally have to dig.
He goes on,
I’m not interested in singing about gay people... I wanted the music to be accessible. I don’t want to appeal to just a tenth of the population.

The interviewer presses the issue, explaining that straight people identify with "straight" music, so it follows that gay people should be able to identify with 'gay" music. To this the openly gay Shears claims that being gay is but a mere part of his identity and admits that he finds queer-centric tunes to be a bit of a bore...

Soundtrack for Summer Fling

Britain's Lucky Soul puts the past back in pop with their debut album, The Great Unwanted. Fronted by the blond, optimistic Ali Howard, the sextet offer unabashed, somewhat nostalgic celebrations of love's highs and woes. Above you'll see the video for "Lips are Unhappy" and after the jump you can feast your eyes (and ears!) on the horn heavy, "Add Your Light to Mine, Baby".

If you like what you see (and, again, hear), you're one lucky soul, because Lucky Soul has an entire YouTube gallery.

Joe Budden may not be the biggest player in hip-hop, but he's sure got some powerful enemies. Not only did he inadvertently start a feud with The Game and G Unit with some improved lyrics - [the] G-Unit [music] video with all the gangsta actors" - but he's also reportedly had a falling out with Jay-Z.

Perhaps that's why Budden's yet to release his second album through Def Jam, which Universal honcho Jay-Z operates. Oh well, we'll always have his eponymous debut and its underrated single, "Pump It Up".

Muy Caliente!

We first heard Alejandro Sanz's "Te lo agradezco pero no" whilst crawling out from under a wicked hangover. A friend of ours decided it would be a real laugh to play the Spanish pop-star's hit at ear piercing levels. We weren't laughing. In fact, we found the situation so unhumorous, we developed a visceral hatred for the song - and the friend.

A few months and a few forced listens later, however, we've learned to love Sanz's single, which also features hip-shaking songstress, Shakira. In fact, we love it so much, we bought his entire album, El Tren de los Momentos. As for the aforementioned associate - he's still off the roster, but we're glad he woke us that dreadful morning.

Will Smith stands as one of the most famous men in America. Considering his starring roles in such flicks as Men in Black, Independence Day and, most recently, Happyness, it's easy to forget Smith's just a kid from Philadelphia. Let's get back to Smith's roots with two of his first singles, "Summertime" and "Parents Just Don't Understand". Wise words, Mr. Smith. Wise words...

Singer Shelves Five Cities

No doubt Elton John's European fans are shaking their faggy fists today. The gay singer's management has regrettably announced that John will not be performing in Venice, Paris, Seville, Berlin or Moscow for his "Red Piano Tour". An Elton flack released the following statement:

We regret to announce that Elton John's European 'Red Piano' shows have been canceled. The promoter has been unable to guarantee to put on the shows, resulting in us having to take this very difficult decision.

We do of course appreciate that Elton's fans will be disappointed at this news, and we are already looking into the possibility of returning to the affected cities in the very near future.

Don't worry, though: the UK shows will go on.

Let's take a little trip back to 1997, the year Ellen came out, Madeleine Albright became the first female Secretary of State, Princess Diana died and Radiohead released their third full-length, OK Computer, establishing themselves as one of the most talented musical outfits of the modern age.

Today, we celebrate that landmark album by posting two of the album's singles, "Paranoid Android" (above) and "Karma Police" (after the jump). Enjoy!

Gotta Stand By Your Man

We found this video from Motown Records' Penelope Jones by accident. It's such a beautiful day here in New York, we wanted something catchy and light. Then, we started thinking about those gay flamingos and thought of the song song, "Celebration" from Kool and the Gang. Our aural associates deemed it "cheesy", which we thought to be part of the fun. But, we conceded and, by chance, clicked on the link to Mya's "Lock You Down". It kind of stinks, but we like some of her old singles, so we went on a little Mya mission, you could say.

Among the lyrical list, we found this fresh video from someone named "Penelope Jones' single "No Matter What They Say", featuring Mya's sonic skills. Always ones to try something new, we gave it a little listen. It's not quite "Celebration", but it's certainly got its charm. We love any girl who describes herself as "ride 'n die".

(Oh, and we also included "Celebration", after the jump.)
