Wedding Wars Rundown
The Good, The Bad and the Bitchy

WW.jpg
Gayville's abuzz over A&E's gay John Stamos vehicle, Wedding Wars. In case you don't know the premise, Stamos plays a newly minted wedding planner (gay, of course) who's meant to plan the governor's daughter's wedding to his brother. Just one problem: the governor's anti gay-marriage. Needless to say this doesn't sit well with Stamos and his one-man boycott ripples across the nation. Socially conscious shenanigans ensue.

While we've yet to see the finished product, here's what a few people have to say about the made-for-tv movie:
Barry Gannon of The Hollywood Reporter refers to the movie as an "absurd dinner theater-type treatment of the issue," deeming it "largely a waste of time". Ouch.

Ever eloquent, Out Magazine's Jason Lamphier's review ends with this note:

Crafty casting of high-profile actors like Stamos and Dane, along with several accessible sitcom-y moments, could help persuade traditionalist viewers to join the cause (didn’t everyone love Jack McFarland?)—but hackneyed, caricature-heavy humor and inadvertent pigeonholing may be considered missteps by supporters who need no convincing.
Okay, well that's a little more balanced, but still not a glittering endorsement.

Meanwhile, Victor Balta's more generous, writing for Herald Net:

Wedding Wars is a fantastic example of what can be accomplished when the creators of entertainment with an agenda actually stop and think about what they're trying to do. There are plenty of one-liners that summon talking points on both sides of the issue, but they come and go between laughs and heart-warming moments.
He also points out that the movie won't change any minds, because anti-homo viewers won't be tuning in. While that may be true, we're sure plenty of you kids will be, even if just to squeeze out more Stamos related masturbatory fantasies.

And, really, isn't that far more important than some less-than-stellar reviews?

thank you for pointing out that the real hotness of the world is John Stamos!

If the pairing had been John and Rob Lowe, I would have eaten my television.

I watched this movie last night (with my boyfriend), it was super cute!

Stamos was very attractive (physically and personally) and the story, while predictable and overblown (Gays on strike!) was charming and engaging. Definitely a gay movie of the 21st century, it has all the components necessary to take a gay movie into the mainstream.

It is not oversexualized and pornographic, as many "gay" movies tend to be, but simply a cute movie you could watch with your parents, that brings up gay social issues and is still entertaining.

Watch its encore this satrday on A&E!

Okay, I'll admit that John Stamos is one hot sud. Definately.
And yes, the movie was 'cute.'
John Stamos' ability to portray a gay man?
I would not believe that he was gay even if I saw him on his knees servicing Lance Bass.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie -- yes, it was a bit fluffy -- but it had a lot of touching moments as well. Some characters may be stereotypical; but some of the dialogs were smartly written in terms of arguments for gay marriage.

John Stamos is hot, no question; but Sean Maher, the actor who plays his bf, is equally adorable if not more so.

I'm with Bryan -- watch the encore and judge for yourself.
