The Trials and Tribulations of Ex-Gayers: Video Edition
A Little Look Inside The Monstrous Movement

A friend from CBC's The Hour send us this video of their piece on Reparative therapy - the controversial, Biblically proportioned "conversion" ex-gays think "cures" homosexuality. Among the tactics, suggesting men stop wearing earrings and pick up a football. Genius!

We know you guys love that shit, so we figured you'd be intrigued. Warning, it's not for the faint of heart. Luckily, we know most of you kids don't have hearts, so you should be okay.

I have to admit I got a little misty there at the end. Many in the religious community deal with homosexuality both in theory or reality. Many in the Seoul Gay Christian group I went to (when I lived there) had tried the theraphy that is discussed above and that I assume Haggard has gone through. What a waste of time and energy.

Why is it that SO many of these ex-gays make BIG speeches about how they're sooooo straight, and then almost immediately talk about how they still struggle with being attracted to members of the same sex?

It seems to me that if you really are straight, you wouldn't have to struggle. Alternatively, if you're having to struggle. . . you're really not straight.

Actually, I think the guy in the Tyndale sweatshirt is a way hot bear! I'll look for him on bear411 in a few years when the marriage falls apart.

Eventhough he talks just like Emo Phillips.

"What if I realize down the road that "I really am Gay."" Just sad. The conservative church could care less about orientation or depression, they just want you to keep it in your pants. I go to an MCC church myself and love it.

nystudman, maybe it's because in the gay community, if you're not a ten, you spend a lot of nights alone. Even the unattractive men won't date other unattractive men. So if you don't want to be alone forever, you most likely will seek companionship elsewhere. And after doing that, why not get back at the community that rejected you so harshly? I think we need to accept responisibilty for the ex-gay movement as well, since it plays on many of the insecurities that exist in our community, that we create ourselves and dump on others
