Hundreds of Sacramento-area students rallied to support four students suspended for wearing anti-gay shirts. One participant said: "It's only going to get worse against Christians. We're going to get persecuted more and more. But those who stand to the end: God is going to save them." Um, right...

Maryland's House has passed a bill requiring health insurance companies to extend benefits to same-sex partners and children. The bill now needs to be signed by the governor to become a law. (We totally just had a School House Rock flashback.)

Do We Care?

smalkeillor.jpg
We always thought Garrison Keillor a bit of a 'mo. Now we have some conjecture to sort of back up our half-witted theory. Via World of Wonder:

While we were blogging we got an email that went something exactly like this: "I can't obviously confirm this, but my friends who are from St. Paul for years told me that Garrison Keillor is a closet fag who used to go out to bars back in the day." Thanks, tipster, that's what we like to hear.
We're not sure if that's what we "like" to hear, but we can say it's intriguing, particularly after all the faggot feathers Keillor ruffled when he wrote that tongue-in-cheek Salon article. But, still, it doesn't really change our opinion on him: he seems kind of gay and even more irrelevant.

But, Really, It Could Be Worse...

keillor.jpg
In case you haven't heard (which really would be a miracle) actor, writer and social commentator Garrison Keillor wrote a little ditty in yesterday's Salon explaining that he doesn't approve of gay families. Here's a taste:

The country has come to accept stereotypical gay men - sardonic fellows with fussy hair who live in over-decorated apartments with a striped sofa and a small weird dog and who worship campy performers and go in for flamboyance now and then themselves. If they want to be accepted as couples and daddies, however, the flamboyance may have to be brought under control. Parents are supposed to stand in back and not wear chartreuse pants and black polka-dot shirts. That's for the kids. It's their show.
Not surprisingly, the gays are all sorts of bent out of shape, calling for Keillor's head and starting letter writing campaigns to NPR demanding they fire him.
