The American Family Association has a long history of inciting riots against "pro-gay" companies. They've got their on-and-off hate affair with Wal-Mart. And of course there's their "victorious" campaign against Ford's dalliance with GLAAD.
But how do the "traditional" family focused rabble rousers know which brands to brand enemies of their fundamentalist state? They subject themselves to hours and hours of gay-endorsed television, of course. The group's project summary:
Between February 11 through May 5, American Family Association monitored the top eight prime-time network programs featuring lead or supporting homosexual characters. These programs were specifically identified by the activist-homosexual group GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) as GLAAD Media Award winners, or as showcasing leading or supporting homosexual characters.Of the eight shows - The Simpsons, ER, The Office, The Class, Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy - four air on the Disney-owned ABC. That means the AFA's going to have to add the media giant to its list of offenders, which already includes Ford, Verizon and Quaker Oats. The AFA's got quite a battle ahead.
If they're really serious about taking down fag-friendly firms, AFA members should again take GLAAD's advice: the media watch dog has a rundown of all the gay pride month televisuals.

It's Not TV. It's H-O-M-O. [Good As You]

• Well, not really, but we bet the incarcerated producer behind Girls Gone Wild he'd love to profit off of Prison Guys Gone Wild.
• Details flippantly deliver the "truth": their rag's a total fag. Guess they really did deserve that GLAAD award.
• Whoopi headed to The View? That makes sense: she's kind of like a black Rosie O'Donnell. Only "not" gay.
• Boise State University and conservative Idaho Family Alliance's Bryan Fischer's "Transgender Bathroom Wars" continue. Honestly, we didn't know they had begun...
• We dont' understand a word of French singer Zazie's 1992 jam, "Sucre Sale", but we dig the homo-flavored, naked model filled video.
• Scandal-ridden congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham denounced his anti-gay ways after buying a yacht from a bunch of butt pirates, according to Seth Hettena, author of Feasting on the Spoils. He told "Buoy Toys'" former owners,
I now vote pro-gay, and it's because of you [guys]... I'm sure I've met lots of gay people, but I've never met two guys that, you know, were outwardly gay and ... that I would consider drinking buddies and friends and boating buddies and people I want to spend time with ... that also said, 'Oh, by the way, I just happened to be gay.The purchase even Cunningham to apologize to openly gay congressman Barney Frank for his homophobic potty mouth, according to Radar. The article also points out the yacht led to a bribery investigation that ended his career. We wonder if he's still keen on the queens.

We received a press release from Logo officially announcing that they'll be broadcasting highlights of the Los Angeles GLAAD Media Awards at 9pm Saturday, April 21, so if you missed the glitz, glamour, gayness and grandstanding earlier this week, well, today's your lucky day.
We'll be watching—if only in hopes of determining once and for all what a GLAAD Vanguard Award is. Even Logo and GLAAD are in disagreement: in their press release a "Vanguard Award" is presented as "honoring media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community," while Logo's official blog says GLAAD's definition of "Vanguard" is any "celeb who's willing to show up."
Hopefully GLAAD and Logo will get their story...um, "straight" before Saturday. Stay tuned!
The GLAAD Media Awards—L.A. Edition—took place last night in La-La Land. Most of the attention was focused on T.R. Knight and his fellow Gray's Anatomy cast members still reeling from the Isaiah Washington debacle (Al Sharpton was noticbly absent). But the surprise of the night was Jennifer Aniston, who was given the evening's "Vanguard Award." We're not sayin' Jenny hasn't been a pal of the community, but vanguard? GLAAD makes its case like this:
Jennifer Aniston is, without a doubt, one of the most charismatic, talented, and celebrated actresses in the world today. It is all the more refreshing then, that she hasn't shied away from roles that playfully or dramatically explore the boundaries of human sexuality and relationships. For ten seasons, Jennifer Aniston played Rachel Green on Friends, a show that included, from its very first season, a portrayal of a lesbian family.
Aaaah—of course! Even though she didn't actually play gay on Friends, she was in a show that featured them. At her behest, we're sure.
GLAAD - the "inclusive" gay media watchdog group - held their 18th annual media awards last night at New York City's Marriott Marquis. We weren't there, but GLAAD president Neil Guiliano sure as hell was. He's in almost every shot.
As for the actual winners, Patti LaBelle won for Excellence in Media Award, while Tom Ford took home the Vito Russo Award. Marc Jacobs' "bear" ad campaign won the advertising honor and, for some reason, GLAAD granted the "straight" men's magazine, Details, the Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage. Because, you know, their "Gay or X" column really helps the cause.

Larry Kramer sure knows how to get a rise out of people. Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (the organization otherwise known as PFLAG) have issued a response to Kramer's Los Angeles Times op-ed in which the legendary gay activist blasted so-called straight hate.
Kramer's offending piece opens, "Dear Straight People, Why do you hate gay people so much?" The 200,000-strong PFLAG insists that's just not so.

Gay cable network here! isn't having GLAAD's straight-washing of their Media Awards. Despite describing itself as dedicated to "promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of [LGBT] people and events in the media", the watchdog group refuses to include gay programming in their nominations. To protest this queer contradiction, here! has yanked their support of the annual event.
Jasmyne Cannick reports:
[here!] sent out a notice via e-mail to their actors, writers, directors and producers stating that the network will no longer support the GLAAD Media Awards or GLAAD until their policy of excluding gay media is changed to be “fair and inclusive.”Here, here, "here!" CONTINUED »
