The GLAAD Media Awards—L.A. Edition—took place last night in La-La Land. Most of the attention was focused on T.R. Knight and his fellow Gray's Anatomy cast members still reeling from the Isaiah Washington debacle (Al Sharpton was noticbly absent). But the surprise of the night was Jennifer Aniston, who was given the evening's "Vanguard Award." We're not sayin' Jenny hasn't been a pal of the community, but vanguard? GLAAD makes its case like this:
Jennifer Aniston is, without a doubt, one of the most charismatic, talented, and celebrated actresses in the world today. It is all the more refreshing then, that she hasn't shied away from roles that playfully or dramatically explore the boundaries of human sexuality and relationships. For ten seasons, Jennifer Aniston played Rachel Green on Friends, a show that included, from its very first season, a portrayal of a lesbian family.
Aaaah—of course! Even though she didn't actually play gay on Friends, she was in a show that featured them. At her behest, we're sure.
"Jennifer Aniston is, without a doubt, one of the most charismatic, talented, and celebrated actresses in the world today." I can think of at least two things wrong with that sentence.
I don't know why this should surprise anyone. No more annoying than those "I'm not a lesbian but I play one on TV" Advocate cover stories.
Next year, watch for GLAAD to honor Daniel Craig because his cousin's brother-in-law's accountant is gay.
GLAAD is such a huge joke. What a drag I don't find them the least bit funny...
What a sad justification for an award. Hopefully, GLAAD can get back on track.
As for Daniel Craig, the bathing suit he wore in Casino Royaleis more than enough reason to honor him.
Jennifer Aniston looked nice when she went to the GLAADs.

I have to check my dictionary for the new definitions of charismatic and talented. Apparently they were changed while I wasn't paying attention.
And I think they forgot the "most-beloved of our generation" part.
