Hundreds of Sacramento-area students rallied to support four students suspended for wearing anti-gay shirts. One participant said: "It's only going to get worse against Christians. We're going to get persecuted more and more. But those who stand to the end: God is going to save them." Um, right...

It's Really Quite A Simple Question

Sure, we loved Brtiish electronic duo Goldfrapp's most recent release, Supernature, but nothing compares to their 2000 debut, Felt Mountain. As a fine art student at Middlesex University, Alison Goldfrapp decided to delve into the magical world of music. After colloborating with Tricky and Orbital, she recorded a few demos, including this track, "Human", which later got passed on to composer Will Gregory.

An industry veteran who had previously worked with Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears and The Cure, Gregory decided immediately he wanted to work with Ms. G. Upon signing to Mute Records in 1999, the duo locked themselves away in the countryside for five months. When they emerged, they offered Mute Felt Mountain and the rest - as they say - is history.

Disco Classic Still Brings The Beat...Or Something.

Last year's release of Goldfrapp's Supernature drummed up a new interest in Cerrone's disco era album of the same name. We've been hooked on both ever since.

Cerrone's album, however, lends it self quite nicely to Monday mornings. Not only does it feature epic disco overtures, thoughtful social commentary (or something) and creepy interludes for the stoner in us all, but the second to last track, "Love is Here", provides us with some much needed romantic inspiration.

We couldn't find the video for "Love is Here", but we did find the moving image for the preceding track, "Give Me Love".

It's the afternoon, it's Monday, you deserve a break. Plus, we think you'll really like it. You gotta hand it to them: they made the most of what they had, i.e. diamond graphics.

South By Southwest is the premiere music festival for "discovering" new talent--bands from all around the world flock to tiny little Austin, TX, to fill the numerous downtown bars and theaters and play their hearts out in the hopes of signing with a label, or introducing themselves to new fans.

We arrived at the festival with our energy drinks in tow, ready for marathon days and late nights as we tried to soak in as much as we could; and after hearing more bands than we can comprehend, we compiled a list of our five favorites. We'll feature one each day. Some have been around, some are new, some are new only to America--but we hope to hear more from all of them.

1) Goldfrapp
goldfrapp.jpegBritish "electro-rock" Goldfrapp is a mix of disco, synthesizers, and glam-rock; perhaps resembling a re-tooled Debbie Harry (from Blondie), Allison Goldfrapp's breathy lyrics seem slow at first, but it's a more subliminal vibe. By the end of the song you're singing along and you don't even realize it. This is the music you'll hear when you go to gay cocktail parties. Very glamorous, total diva, authentically British, Allison Goldfrapp will pick up in America where the Scissor Sisters left off.

Play song: White Horse (our favorite)
Play song: Ooh La La

• First Madonna makes plans for Coachella. Now queer favorite Goldfrapp to perform at the huge, enormous, fabulous South By Southwest Music Festival. The gays should really pay attention to his music festival thing. No one goes to circuit parties anymore. [GCN]

Gay adoption is totally banned in Florida--the only state with such policies, in fact--but a new law might change that. Maybe. Floridians, call your state reps! [AP]

• Moscow mayor takes Communist view on gay pride: still a big no-no. Too bad, Johnny Weir would have been a great Grand Marshall. Hell, we would have gone with him! And suddenly, I know why the Mayor said "no"... [Dallas Voice]
