There must have been some serious pressure on him, because Grey's Anatomy's Isaiah Washington has not only admitted to calling cast mate TR Knight a faggot, but has apologized for using the epithet. In what we suspect to be a producer and publicist penned piece, Washington says:
I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance. By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on Grey's Anatomy. I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I've asked for help.He's asked for help, huh? What sort of help do you think he's seeking? How to not be a homophobe or how not to be a completely brain dead and lie about something on national television, thus ruining what would otherwise be a moment of celebration?I know the power of words, especially those that demean. I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues. With one word, I've hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened.
T.R.'s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character. I hold his talent, and T.R. as a person, in high esteem. I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity.
As for his future actions, we'll certainly be keeping our eyes peeled for Washington's so-called "sincerity". We aren't however, holding our breaths.

The "leaders" of the gay community are those who step up and take initiative to be out there and up front speaking about and fighting for gay causes. Like it or not, HRC and GLAAD, Andy Towle - and even the bitches who run Queerty (luv ya!) - ARE the leaders of the gay community because they are out front and in the spotlight.
If you're not happy with the way they do what they do, then fight to change it or step up and get out in front yourself. Don't just whine that you didn't elect these people. Please.

Actually Washington didn't apologize. ABC issued a Press Release stating that he did. Pure damage control on ABC;s part. Let Washington Apologize in person. On a New/talkshow and then maybe...MAYBE I'll believe its sincere. Until then NO DICE. ABC shoudl have fired his ass immediately. And TR Knight should sue ABC for sexual harassment in the workplace for them NOT firing Washington immediately.
