• Losing your hair? God still loves you. Perhaps even more than your full-headed friends. [Slate]
• Kathy Griffin may love her gays, but only if they're willing to meet her quote. [Page Six]
• A Connecticut judge rules gay couples haven't been disadvantged by the state's deciison to allow civil unions instead of full marriage. [AP]
• A line of grooming products inspired by America's freeways would, under normal circumstances, scare us away. [UrbanDaddy]
The only thing that Kathy says more on her show than "I love my gays" is "It's all about the money." Good for her! Splash is a for-profit enterprise last time I checked (as opposed to Gay Pride). Pay her the money bitches...
Kathy Griffin may love her gays, but only if they're willing to meet her quote.
And only the tacky gays would attack an advocate/friend of the community for trying to earn a living. *rolls eyes*
Pay me. It's the motto of everyone that's not a retard. Get over it.
ditto to what everyone else has said. why the hell should she work below her rate for them? it's not like its a good bar anyway
Yeah, I don't get the fuss either. Kathy has a price. They didn't meet it. It doesn't mean she doesn't "love her gays". It means she has good business sense.
I agree with the other commenters: In hours, how long does it take Splash to turn $5,000 profit? Is it even as much as one hour? For $5,000, could you even book Carrot Top?
Every time Griffin talks about "her gays" I feel like a slave down on the plantation. Yass'm, Massa Kathy. Yass'm.
I enjoy her act, but she is teetering towards making me mad when she criticizes Ellen DeGeneres, saying she "banned" her from her show. I don't know or care if it's true or not; Kathy's act isn't appropriate for the "Ellen" show at all. But above all, Griffin should know better than to attack the woman who - let's face it - has done more for ALL of us than any other living being today. Ya don't trash talk Ellen and expect me to not get mad as hell. There are about 800,000,000 assholes out there who DESERVE to be trashed. Lay off my hero Ellen. I'll never forgive that.
What did those fools at Splash think? That Kathy would give them more than 80% off her usual fee? They have obviously never see her show. I don't think Kathy would get out of bed without getting paid, and if I wouldn't either if i could get away withit.
If Splash loves the gays so much, why don't they cut their drink prices by 80%? Please.
The crowd Kathy would draw is worth far more than 5000 bucks and Splash should gladly pay her fee if they want to reap the benefits of the clientele she would draw.
Just so that you know, J-Lo was given a LARGE sum of money to perform at the Pier Dance this year (some went to her, the rest to fly she and her dancers to NYC, all hotel costs, hair, make-up, transport around NYC, food, etc.) In fact the performance almost didn't happen because Heritage of Pride couldn't come up with the amount needed and a certain television channel helped foot the bill.
Stop trying to get free press over your cheap-ass ways, Splash. If she had come TO YOU to perform it might be a different story but you asked her. Don't hide behind the community that's paying your bills. I thought all the muscle queens who own and work there had balls...apparently I was wrong.
SPLASH is so 90's. And obviouly they try to pay like its 1990!
I've only caught her show in brief glimpses, but I loved it when she went on the Today show an hour after Ann Coulter and asked "what's she doing wearing a cocktail dress at 7 in the morning?"
I agree that she's done nothing wrong here. The gay bar in question is a BAR which exists to make a profit. A for-profit bar is not the same thing as a civic event like Gay Pride. It's sophistry to try to draw an analogy like that.
Splash is cheap (except for their expensive cover charge and expensive drinks) and except for the fact that they would get an extremely large gathering of we Gays and probably triple the cover charge, triple the cost of the drinks and rip us off while also ripping off Kathy Griffin by underpaying her, overcharging us and complaining that Kathy isn't "giving back to the Gay community". Splash isn't a charity and nor should Kathy be paid like she isn't worthy of an "A" list price. Actually, $30,000.00 is probably very "D" list. I am sure if it were an "A" list star, that there would be a least another zero in the appearance fee. I say "you go girl" to Kathy Griffin and Splash has ripped us off forever...so 'whatever' to them..and yes, they are so "90s"!!
oops..and one more thing..to me Kathy Griffin is very "A" list and a great performer. Yes, I also agree that her humor isn't appropriate for Ellen's morning show. But that is why I love Kathy Griffin so much....she keeps it real, very funny and is more appropriate for the Graham Norton show where everyone has extra fun (Not that you don't with Ellen's show..I simply adore Ellen but its a different kind of show....more of the kind that Rosie did but to match Ellen's humor and style (if you notice, Ellen in her stand up never uses a curse word...she uses language as an art form and quirky observations on life....and let's face it there are plenty of artists under the Rainbow of all kinds....so, its all good:)
I dont think it was a matter of negotiation.. she feels as thought her reptuation is big enough that her price tag is never below a certain point so i dont think she hates or is fake toward gays i just think she has gotten greedier.. you cant blame her if your use to making a certain amount of money.. could you get ellen to do a show at a club for $5,000? Thats chump change compared to what they usually make..
