Happy Endings: The Day Mark Foley Saved Congress!
Also, The Day Media Exploded All Over Our Shit

smallhardfoley.jpg
• The Mark Foley scandal may have been the best thing for the Congressional page program.

Viktors Birze, the man accused of inciting the attack on last year's Latvian gay pride, has been charged with public disorder. Sweet, sweet, justice.

• Wait, maybe Details did deserve that GLAAD award. Psych!

Hayden Panettiere does not appreciate being called Lindsay Lohan. Motherfucker.

• Want to read the entire Michael Musto Out article on "The Glass Closet"? Click here to live your dream.

• The mystery of Helvetica: it's bigger than you think.

• Colt star Gage Weston (seriously?) gets down on Workout!

• The A Brief Smile scandal gets some ink. And we're quoted! Read our editor's entire statement, after the jump.

• It's Wednesday. You know what that means. Well, yes, the week's half-way over. But, more importantly, it's time for some Good Times: the Queerty-sponsored, eastern bloc-housed, Jimmy Im-spun, Svedka-soaked weekly party. This week's special treats: guest DJ Kurvin and the launch of Genre's spring break issue. Hopefully they'll make up for that MOTY scandal. Get the deets, after the jump.

Andrew Belonsky's entire response for the A Brief Smile story:

No matter how many times I hear homophobic slurs - and that's what these were, homophobic slurs - my gut drops. But this initial reaction fades quickly. I've become so used to hearing remarks similar to those made by the Dog House boys - and that's what they are, boys. Unfortunately, such flippant pejoratives are part and parcel with a certain brand of homophobia: the homophobia of which The Dog House is guilty.

Certainly JV and Elvis' comments aren't as violent as a swift kick to the head or, on a more relative level, calling someone a "faggot", but the sentiment remains the same: gays are a punchline, a joke, disposable one-liners. That ain't cool. Especially for some sixteen year old gay boy who may hear the show or experience such juvenile taunts, so-called comedic jabs.

I'm not meaning to be priggish about their prickish behavior, because I can't really hold them responsible for their attitudes - they're products of their testosterone driven, shock jock(ish) environment. I can, however, hold them responsible for their actions - from what I understand, they're quite successful and, I assume, influential. They have a responsibility, then, to combat the casual disregard for a people's rights and social respect. When gays are just as equal as straights - or, rather, if, because if such boys refuse to grow up and be men, then we're doomed - that's when you can use us a punchline. And, even then, try to make it more clever than "pansy". Put a little effort in next time.

I will admit, however I had a chuckle at their online response to the Queerty post: the Urban Dictionary definition for "pansy". Very clever. Although, I prefer my source's to be a little more...robust.

Big Daddy Matt says:

Guys for the love of god, you keep beating a dead horse to try and make a name for yourselves by bringing up the JV & Elvis subject again. I would think for a group of people who are so high and mighty when it comes to being proper, and so righteous they would want to move on from the negativity and create more positive news. This is really pathetic of you guys. I destroyed my copy of A Brief Smiles CD and wil not support them ever again, really people the more you keep bringing this up, the more I am loosing any respect for you.

Go attack South Park then. If you know anything about Doghouse they are the same thing. Joke on EVERYTHING and nothings serious!

JV's best friend is Gay... While in SF there co-host was Gay... They co-host on the show now is Bi.....

GET A LIFE and stop crying over jokes. Everything and anything gets made fun of and you don't see others crying. It all for fun if you can't have fun then its you that has a problem
