We may jest about The Fischer Family's very real problems, but India's UNAIDS representative Denis Broun's statement on India's homo-related apathy is no laughing matter.
On the eve of World AIDS Day, Broun has released a damning statement on the country's anti-homo laws. With a harsh - yet rarely enacted - sentence of 10 years in prison, Braun insists these laws not only criminalize homosexuality, but trample human rights laws: "These people are discriminated against just because of their sexual preference, for no other reason...It violates their human rights."
India tops the list of the world's most HIV-filled countries, weighing in with approximately 5.7 million reported cases. Obviously something needs to be done. By reversing the aforementioned laws, the government will not only combat discrimination, but help curb AIDS, as well.
...UNAIDS says the law -- enacted in 1861 by British colonial rulers -- forces homosexuals underground, making it difficult to accurately estimate how much sexual transmission is through MSM and the extent of the epidemic among gay men. Most Indian men who had sex with men were bisexual and risked infecting their female partners, Broun said.

i am an Indian, a gay, atax paying citizen, trying to live a decent life. my being gay ha snot harmed anyone and i am appaled that some of my fellow indians consider it an "evil". in what way do more than millions of indians become "evil"? because we are gay? because we are not those macho in your face males, many of them who dont think twice before pouncing on girls? because we are not those who think women are property and needs to used and abused? because we are not those who marry and have sex shamlessless on the sidelines whenever given an opportunity? becuase we are not shrink cases who see and think eveil everywhere but for selves ? grow up ajay! you are as evil as anyone else out there. stop passing judgements based on a person's sexuality. a fellow indian
