Teens Double Rate Of Oral And Anal Sex

licking_lips.jpgTeens are gettin' it on more often these days, according to a report by Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. The results were gathered from a--how pleasant--STD clinic.

At the 2006 National STD Prevention Conference, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention--doesn't that sound like a fun conference?--doctors reported the rate of teens engaging in oral sex has doubled over the past ten years, with a higher increase amongst women. Translation: not only the slutty girls are going down on the guys anymore.

The rise in oral sex is attributed to the perceived risk of sexual intercourse, thinking oral sex is safer--ironic, as they are gathering these findings at an STD clinic. Guess that didn't work out too well for them, did it? No word on the differences in rates between same-sex and opposite-sex frolicking. We imagine the gay sex is the same as it always was, since gay guys have always been adept at tracking each other down.

Dan,
Interesting post. I recently graduated from H.S. and found that your read is correct. Not only is it becoming almost hip to engage in oral the fact is that male to male oral is booming in schools. Add to that the relative ease at getting a fake i.d. and ergo find a cruising spot where homosexuals can once again be open and the study cited is probably low in their estimates.

It intrigues me that oral sex is not considered "doing it" today. My understanding is that guys "helping" each other orally is not considered "gay" either.

Kinda makes me want to go back to high school, heh.

Hi Gabriel,
In fact it is mostly not considered "doin' it"...which brings an interesting point to the front: My feeling is that by casting oral sex as not Doin' it young men are able to experiment freely. I had always considered myself straight yet had absolutely no hesitation to engage in oral sex with another male. Fact is that I'm not alone. Teen males are experimenting much more in high school and are even beginning to do so openly. In my school a significant number of boys had experimented and as you can probably guess found that the ability to do so without stigma provided a much greater sexual awareness.

Anyone in NY want to pretend we're in high school again? ;-)

What I don't get about this study: people are engaging in more oral because it's perceived as safer, but they're engaging in more anal sex as well? It seems like something is askew with the data here...

Logan,
I think it is the old story that one thing leads to another but the study is correct in that anal is on the rise. However, for what it's worth condoms are also pretty much a standard too. Lots of manual sex also. I think it needs to be mentioned though that there is also quite a bit of boy/man sex going on outside of HS. It is as easy to find as a 7/11 and many are acting without sense often.

I guess I don't get out enough.

I remember being in high school and looking to men in the gay community for some sort of hook up. I fortunately had more luck with boys my age. Still, I don't remember there being a glut of sexual opportunity...

I'm a young and fit guy. Am I missing something or is it still fairly difficult to have fun, casual sex in New York? I know that we can all drag guys home from the bar, but are things really changing in a way where people are opening up about sex? Or is this just another form or American puritanicalism - more quantity, still minimal quality, and no intimacy please.

Your thoughts boys?

Hi Logan,
Can't speak for NY but in L.A. fun casual sex is fairly easy. I'd also venture to say that there is still a large segment of the population who still wants to simply turn their heads regarding homosexuals. It is interesting that in high schools here the ability to find a partner is actually easier. The gay community is still somewhat segregated from a singles scene perspective. The other problem is a constant application of hetro rules or standards for homosexuals...that is where I feel the puritanical American morality comes to play.
