More Words from Donnie Davies
Because We Just Can't Get Enough of The Doughy Bigot Rocker...

Who could forget yesterday's post featuring reformed homosexual and fag-hating rocker, Donnie Davies? Well, here's a video of him introducing himself and Love God's Way.

Just remember, he wants to know what's going on in your life. So, send him a MySpace message. He'll love it.

(PS: How many takes do you think it took for him to get the coat flip just right? We say eight...)

It's a shame because he's kinda cute in that bearish/cub kinda way. I wonder if The Psychedelic Furs are aware that they use their song "Love My Way". Think the fur's want to be associated with the Love Gods Way?

On lovegodsway.org website, they use a quote from Oscar Wilde, calling him a reformed homosexual. Isn't this whole thing a parody?

I'm fairly confident "The Bible Says" is a parody:

1) Look at the list of "Gay Bands" on lovegodsway.org ... some are clearly inside jokes for indie rock people. Arcade Fire? the Strokes? How gay is Motorhead, really?

2) Look at the list of "Safe Bands". After all that research on gay
bands, you'd think they could name more than a dozen bands in their own genre. Cyndi Lauper? She had that song She-Bop, right .. another inside joke.

3) All the links on lovegodsway.org (the ministry) and
eveningservice.com (the band) point to eachother. If you read the text on both sites, one exists entirely to support the other. And they both exist to promote that video. There's no larger record label the band is signed to and no larger denomination the ministry is affiliated with. Insular and self-referential. No history to refute. Hoax.

4) This "ministry" does not seem to be asking for any "money"

5) Check out the swipe at the republican party:
http://lovegodsway.org/WhyNow
the "corruption" link points to ted haggard on wikipedia.

Paging lonelygirl15!

Is it just me, or was he checking somebody out off camera about halfway through the video?

Jonathon says:

I still do not believe that this is a parody. None of the arguments I have seen so far have stood up to what I am seeing with my own eyes.

Consider this, from the "Gay?" link on the lovegodsway.org website:

"Are you struggling with undesired same-sex attractions? Maybe you have been a Homosexual for a long time, but now are searching for a way out. You have come to the right place! Love God's Way is offering hope and help to people seeking freedom from being Gay. We believe and we have seen in thousands of lives that this freedom is possible through the power of our C.H.O.P.S program working in our hearts and minds.

"The bottom line - you shouldn't be gay! [emphasis in original] You can lead a life of fulfillment and happiness as God intended, a life far better than what your Gay life has offered.

"The journey to normalcy isn't an easy one, but we will be with you through the adventure. Our national network of online Christian ministries are devoted to providing the love and care you need as you find God, holiness, and healing."

Where's the parody in this passage? That doesn't read like parody to me. That sounds like the real thing.

He's for real, guys. Take him at his word.

I think Andy has done some brilliant research above. self-referential indeed. no place to donate money (hello!) I think of all the posts i have read on this, it seems this solves the mystery enough for me.

I'm the First Amendment Queen of Chelsea and all, but would MySpace allow a video called "God Hates Sand Niggers/ Chinks/ Jews/ Wetbacks/ Niggers/ Gooks/ Kikes" and etc.???

And why do you insist on giving this cocksuckers so much PR?

RDM says:

I think this isn't a hoax, but a fly-by-night project, in all its disgusting earnestness. But I agree with Kenneth that this guy has already gotten more coverage than he deserves.

His taste in music is actually pretty good. But he probably never listened to the lyrics of she-bop.

Parody?

Yup..

Why did he name Bobby Conn on his Gay Bands list? No one knows who Bobby Conn is. Unless of course you play in Bobby Conn's band The Glass Gypsies.

does the moustachioed gent look a little familiar? like our favorite fag hating cuddly douche rocker, perhaps?

Sean says:

Good call, famous mortimer. Of course it's a parody--he thanked Andrew Sullivan for "getting behind" him--it's just not obvious enough for us to feel comfortable laughing at it. Sounds like he may be telling us all to lighten up. Lighten our loafers, that is.

J. says:

He's already been exposed as a member of a Dallas, TX comedy troupe. His real name is Joel Ogelsby. Google "Donnie Davies" to see for yourself.

The parody was obvious, preaching homophobia in a pink shirt and white pants with lyrics about Jesus being "the only man for me" and how you can't sneak in to heaven through "a back door". His YouTube postings clearly show he's trying to imitate the stereotypical Southern Baptist preacher.

Some of you fell for this? Stop taking yourselves so seriously, there's nothing more annoying than feigned outrage.
