And Edwards Loves Them, Too

jedwardsH2.jpg
In an attempt to prove his political chops, presidential hopeful John Edwards has released a list of 25 gay people who support his candidacy. Among the politically-minded 'mos, one will find legendary producer Darren Star, Garden State Equality's Jeff Gardner, as well as David Mixner, who worked for President Bill Clinton. With the list, Edwards also released a statement:

I am honored to have the support of so many well-respected LGBT leaders. They work hard every day to make our country a better place and I am proud to join with them to fight for equal rights for all Americans.
What's most intriguing about the lavender list is the amount of HRCers: no less than four current or former HRC members have signed on to support the former Senator. This comes as a bit of a surprise, especially considering that political rival Hillary Clinton recently appeared at an HRC dinner pledging her alliance with the group. Curious...

Porny Past Bubbles To The Top

rodmajorsfuckup.jpg
Cpl. Matt Sanchez made a name for himself after coming out against Columbia University's liberal students who, it seems, tormented him for his army-serving ways. Conservative politicos and pundits picked up on the story, prancing him from Bill O'Reilly to last week's Conservative Political Action Conference, where Ann Coulter famously called John Edwards a faggot.

Well, old eagle-eyed Joe from Joe.My.God and his loyal readers have found that long before the army and Columbia and finding the national spotlight, Sanchez acted in a number of gay pornos, including the deliciously entitled, Jawbreaker and Glory Holes of Fame 3. Under the name Rod Majors, the measly corporeal helped hordes of homos get off with his "11 inch uncut dick". Brilliant, right? Joe certainly think so:

Now, porn stars are entitled to enter the miliary, although Sanchez obviously had to do it on the downlow. Porn stars are entitled to have a right-wing ideology, even though the very people he supports would love to see gay porn stars strung up by the nuts.
...
The right-wing has gobbled this porn hunk up with a spoon, never knowing that tons of men have gobbled up his monster cock ON FILM. I love it, I love it, I love it.
We do, too, Joe. We do, too...

Can't wait to see what O'Reilly will have to say about this, especially after he took on Gavin Newsom's "Colt Studio Day".

Adverts Dry Up

coulterAH.jpg
The Ann Coulter scandal continues to dominate headlines this gorgeous Tuesday morning. In case you've been living under a rock and/or lack any and all memory, the conservative pundit found herself in hot water after referring to presidential hopeful John Edwards as a "faggot". Now, as outraged homos, liberals and conservatives calls for her head, Coulter made an appearance on Fox News' Hannity and Colmes, insisting she didn't mean to offend anyone. No, rather, Coulter says she used a "schoolyard word" for "wouse, nerd". She also aligns herself against the Republican candidates who spoke out against her.

We've included the video after the jump. We've never seen Coulter squirm so much. She's obviously feeling the heat. And with good reason: a number of advertisers have dropped off her website: Verizon, Sallie Mae and Netbank. While certainly we love the fact these companies are yanking their support, we're intrigued by Verizon's rationale:

Per our policy, the networked Web site ad purchases are supposed to be stripped of certain kinds of Web sites. This one could be considered an extreme political Web site, should be off the list, and now it is off the list.
Alright, we suppose you could argue Coulter ventures into the frontiers of extremism, but she's been over the top since the beginning of time. They're obviously pulling the ad because of her faggot flinging. So, why can't they say that? Your guess is as good as ours.

But Was It The Right One?

boniorH.jpg
Now that we know where the GOP and Edwards stand on this whole mess, let's take a little look at what John Edwards' campaign manager, David Bonior has to say. Some claim he hasn't said anything at all. What's more, he and his are missing a tremendous opportunity to work for change

In an email blast we've included after the jump, Bonior describes Coulter's comments as "one of the worst moments in American politics I've ever seen". But, he says, they're far from surprising:

This is just as taste of the filth that the right-wing machine is gearing up to throw at us... John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power.
Bonior's nothing if not a dreamer.

Rather than sinking to the same level of shameful smearing, Bonior wants Edwards supporters to help the campaign raise 100,000 of "Coulter Cash" in a week. Bonior's cash call may help the campaign pay its bills, but will it help pay its debt to the gay community? Sappho-journo Pam Spaulding says, "Hells no, motherfucker".

Calls Rude Remark "Indefensible"

edwardsillustrated.jpg
Here's what alleged faggot and presidential hopeful John Edwards has to say about Ann Coulter's statement:

Ann Coulter's use of an anti-gay slur yesterday was un-American and indefensible. In America, we strive for equality and embrace diversity. The kind of hateful language she used has no place in political debate or our society at large.

I believe it is our moral responsibility to speak out against that kind of bigotry and prejudice every time we encounter it.

Well, unfortunately her anti-gay slur's very American - it's popped up more than a few times over the last few months. That said, some hope his campaign will use this as a platform for a larger political debate. See what we mean in the next post...

Coulter Laughs It All Off

anncoulterPretty.jpg
Republican presidential hopefuls have heeded HRC and John Amaechi's mutually beneficial calls for an Ann Coulter apology.

As the "faggot" stink became a stench, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney all issued denouncements. McCain and Giuliani's statements sound as if they were prepackaged for such an event. McCain spokesman Brian Jones said simply, "The comments were wildly inappropriate." Giuliani echoed the sentiment, but took the idea to a bit of higher level: "The comments were completely inappropriate and there should be no place for such name-calling in political debate." No way. Politics should be a friendly game of wit and skill.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney - the former Massachusetts governor known for his politically opportunistic homophobia - and his campaign team had this to say: "It was an offensive remark. Governor Romney believes all people should be treated with dignity and respect." It should have continued, "But not of they're gay and want to marry. That's sinful."

Asked for a reaction to the Republican outcry, Ms. Coulter played down the brouhaha by employing some of her signature flippancy: "C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean." Okay, that's pretty funny...

"No Cheap Jokes", Cries B-Baller

Ann Coulter's got herself a new enemy: John Amaechi.

The recently outed former NBA player and freshly appointed HRC spokesperson has come out with some words against the conservative pundit's use of the word "faggot" while describing presidential hopeful, John Edwards.

We've included the video above (obviously), but would like to highlight one of Amaechi's statements:

Ann Coulter knows better, yet continues to disparage the GLBT community. The people in the room with her yesterday would do well to speak out loudly against her remarks and more importantly her sentiment and send a message that harmful slurs never have a place in the public discourse.
Coulter should know better? Yeah, right - she knows exactly what she's doing.
