Cop Eats Pot Brownies, Freaks, Calls 911

The 911 call that's sure to be a classic.

Keith Boykin on Bobby Brown's anti-gay tirade, sexual panic and hate crime legislation.

• Which Republican presidential candidate will shed the most publicist-endorsed tears for Jerry Falwell's death?

• Some gay San Franciscans won't be shedding any tears for Jerry Falwell. They're planning an anti-memorial. Whoa. That's a. unnecessary and b. makes gay people look like jerks.

• California high school student Johnny Vera has our undying respect. This ballsy fucker's not only transgender in high school, but he had the confidence to run for prom queen! And won! You work that shit, girl. You work that shit... (PS: We have to include the picture. Trannie prom queens forever!)

Dissect The "New F-Word" (Faggot, Not Fuck)

Apparently Paula Zahn's news show wasn't doing so well, because CNN's now made her their resident discrimination expert. Each night, Zahn and her guests take a look at hate crimes, prejudice and other ugly bits that haunt America's collective consciousness. Of course, just because she's not reporting the news, doesn't mean she's not exploring the news, including the whole Isaiah Washington scandal.

This here's the video from Monday's episode on which Keith Boykin and Human Rights President Joe Solmonese appeared to discuss the use of the word "faggot" in America. We'll let you guys do the commenting, because, really, there's so much here.

We will say, however, that CNN made the right choice in giving Zahn this role: ain't nobody in America who knows about discrimination more than a pretty white lady. Also, she's apparently classier than Glenn Beck (or, rather, listens more closely to producers), because she won't say "faggot" on the air. She prefers "six letter derogatory term for homosexual". A bit lengthy, but it's the thought that counts.

Is it uncouth to go from a piece on a band called "White Town" to an article on the dearth of gay black characters on television? Probably, but oh well...

As you remember, earlier in the television season, GLAAD spilled much ink (and we probably loads of dough) on the lack of gay characters on network television. Now, Hikaru Freeman over at AfterElton is taking on the deficit of gay blacks in general.

While we think examinations of gays in media can be a bit tiresome, we're actually intrigued by this piece. Okay, maybe intrigued isn't the right word. Dare we say impressed?

Sure, it's the standard flair: gay black men are either flaming queers or sexless props, but we have to admit that Freeman's incorporated some pretty good voices into this study, including Keith Boykin and Rod McCollum.

While they're all well and good, perhaps the most notable comment comes from Steven Emmanuel of Queer Kid of Color:

Now that I think of it, how come all the white gay men I see are more masculine then our black gay brothers? Brokeback Mountain … was about two masculine, white men on the down low. Everyone thought Brokeback Mountain was a love story. I beg to differ. It was a gay cowboy love story. Gay in the sense that they were both gay, cowboy in the sense that they were both cowboys, love in the sense that they were both in love, and let's just throw in the words ‘down low' since they had female partners while being together. There's your gay cowboy love story. My point: The reaction to the film would have been different if it was two masculine black men who were closeted. It wouldn't have been a love story. It would have been a black gay love story about two men on the down low who play basketball.

We can't even imagine what GLAAD would do if Brokeback had been about two black guys. Undoubtedly they'd have said something, although we suspect they would have found a way to turn it into an argument about a lack of faggot crackers or something.

Anyway, check out the article and come on back, kiddies. You won't regret it. If you do...well, tough.

(Oh, and if anyone out there plans on writing a racist comment, keep it to yourself, thanks. We're not in the mood.)

We always suspected that fellow blogger Keith Boykin had a penchant for pinning athletic young men to the mat, but we never knew he had such impressive guns. Keith wrestled four exhausting matches on Sunday and Monday to come away with the top award in his weight class at the Gay Games in Chicago. Who ever said bloggers aren't bad-ass should be eating their words.

20051017_Boykin_Keith.jpg

Poor Keith Boykin. He just can't catch a break. First he gets rejected from Showtime’s American Candidate, now he gets booted from this past weekend’s Million More March.

Louis Farrakhan promised that he would be welcome to address the crowd but when he showed up early Saturday morning, speech in hand, Boykin was booted by Reverend Willie Wilson. You all remember him? WW delivered an enlightened speech in July blaming those scheming lesbians for the declining state of the black community:

Lesbianism is about to take over our community…I ain’t homophobic because everybody here got something wrong with him…women falling down on another woman, strapping yourself up with something, it ain’t real.

Hang in there, Keith. We can’t get you on that stage, but take the high road. Extend an olive branch to WW and send him a strapping gift. He'll love it. We hear it's the same one Condi uses.

You can read Keith’s fantastic, never delivered, harness-free speech here.

Melissa Etheridge smoked doobies to help with pain from chemo. There's no doubt she got prescriptions from her own kids' dad, cannabis-blooded David Crosby.

LA's AIDS Walk is this Sunday. It's the perfect excuse to get your glutes in shape.

• African-American gays will be represented for this weekend's Millions More March by political commentator and American Candidate reject, Keith Boykin. One fag out of a million isn't bad.

• Comedy Central is developing a show based on Adam Sandler's Gay Robot. No, it won't star David Dreier.

• NFL Comissioner Paul Tagliabue, whose son is gay, was honored by PFLAG. We'll refrain from making any tight end, huddling and communal shower jokes so you can feast your eyes on quarterbareback, Tom Brady.
