In an upcoming issue of Out Magazine, friends of Luther Vandross reveal he was gay. Michael Musto, one of Vandross' friends quoted in the story, says "Luther was dying to have a boyfriend. It was an inside showbusiness open secret."

Those pesky gay rumors dogged Vandross much of his professional life; although Vandross' family members are clawing their eyes out in horror at this revelation, we applaud his friends for giving other gay black performers an inspiration to express themselves while they are still alive. We imagine finding love was hard for Vandross. Let’s hope it wasn’t the single life that finally did the poor guy in.

The New York Times on Christmas day looked back at some of the people we lost this year and told their stories. Included was Luther Vandross.

The article says “He was already a backup singer in heavy demand by the mid- 70's, and what instantly set him apart at first was that he sang like a girl - or rather three very strong "girls": Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross.”

The author then goes on to declare, “Sure, they were sensitive, vulnerable guys. But in making pop music a safer place for men to question themselves, they were also manly as hell.”

For the record we love Luther. But, really. There was not one thing manly about Miss Vandross. The Gays know what it means to have three strong girls inside. Trust. Luther was one of us. Why nobody seems to see this is baffling. He may have questioned himself, but we just wish the media would do the same.

Frank Angeletti's Homovision is an online magazine for the gay community. The recently published Issue 23 contains features on such diverse topics as Judy Garland, leathermen, the Sweeney Todd revival, and a recipe for pot brownies.

With a (very gay) soundtrack pumping, Homovision also sheds light on the eroticism of enemas, quotes Liza’s diary, and provides its fair share of cock shots. Add an essay remembering Luther Vandross and a note from a friend about the joy of sex (involving feet) and you get a really unique and really gay reading experience.

The Rock

Homovision is an online magazine full of wonderful graphic images too. Check out the photo essay “Mothra: Then and Now” and see just how beautiful Ms. Stewart was in her youth. We love any site that can show the equal beauty of Kristen Chenoweth and pierced cocks. How could you not?

The Not Safe For Work site can be seen here.
