Bette Midler Sings More Remakes

20051117_MidlerCover.jpg

Peggy Lee died in 2002 but we wonder how often she rolls in her melodic grave when her songs are remade. Unfortunately, she was still around when Madonna butchered her way though Fever in the mid-90’s.

In Bette Midler Sings the Peggy Lee Songbook, the Divine Miss M takes on Lee's greatest hits and makes them her own. Both women are amazing vocalists, but did Bette really have to record this short album (it logs in at about only 30 minutes)? Since her last album was a songbook of Rosemary Clooney tracks, we would have much rather preferred some original material from her this time around.

We're a little concerned about the direction Bette's recording career is going. We fear it might only be a matter of time before she puts out a Lesley Gore or Marianne Faithfull tribute album. Actually, that might be sort of cool. Sort of.

And in case you were wondering, Bette's version of Fever doesn't suck as much as Madge's.
