Morning Aural: Nick Drake
A Special Dedication

A lot of you guys got a little angry with us for yesterday's Anna Nicole themed Happy Endings. Rest assured, we didn't mean to offend - it was actually in honor of her and we like to think she'd appreciate it. But, to make up for that, we dedicate this video of Nick Drake's "When The Day is Done" to her.

Like Ms. Smith, Drake died too early, the victim of an apparent overdose at the tender age of 26. While he may not have left as big of a mark as Smith, Drake's oft-referenced as one of music's greatest talents, an honor he earned from his three gorgeous albums: Five Leaves Left, Pink Moon and Bryter Layter. This track comes from the first, which dropped way back in 1969, two years after Anna Nicole's birth.

Nick Drake is one of my favorites. His celebrity footprint may not have been as wide as Anna's, but he made a much larger mark on this world when you factor in all of the musicians and artists he has inspired since his short life in music began.

Anna's life was tragic, and somehow we accepted her into our hearts if only to pity her. Now we pity her tragic death, too. Is it too assuming to say she's a sort-of Marylin Monroe of our times? Not in talent, for sure, but in a sad mix of beauty and tragedy, taken from the world too young...
