Neil Patrick Harris visited Ellen for a session on her daytime talk couch and US Magazine has all the juicy highlights:
Ellen: So in November you decided to make a public announcement to say that you were going to come out. What made you do that?
Neil: I don’t know.
Ellen: Nothing's changed right?
Neil: No, nothing's changed.
Ellen: It’s a freer way to live.
Neil: The normalcy of it I think is important.
Ellen: Yep?
Neil: Yep.
Neil Patrick Harris: Why I Came Out [US]
This has got to be the most boring, uninformative interview I've ever read. A relatively minor actor came out. Big deal!
that ANY actor came out is a pretty big deal, my friend
"that ANY actor came out is a pretty big deal, my friend"
I have to respectfully disagree. they're coming out of the woodwork these days. I don't think it's a big deal or even a so-so deal anymore.
"I don't think it's a big deal or even a so-so deal"
Maybe becuase you're already out, nystudman. But for those not out, celebs talking about this could be helpful to them.
I like that he at least acknowledges that part of his decsion came from being under recent media scrunitiny. If Perez Hilton hadn't started stirring things up I doubt Harris would have ever come out officially.
Anyone in the public eye coming out is good. The more people who come out, the more "normal" it becomes and the more straight people will come to accept it as no big deal to be gay. But they really need to come out of their own accord, outing people makes it seem like it's shameful.
