You may have heard that the Dallas Tourism Board has been courting queer travelers, hoping to bring some of that coveted gay dough to their dazzling city. While business associations and politicians salivate over the potentially profitable move, the city's Catholic communities aren't having it. An article in this week's National Catholic Register derides the city's promotion of the oft-cited gay agenda.
In his personal effort to stop the madness, Journo Anthony Flott compares Dallas to Philadelphia, another city that's reached out to gay tourists.
A similar promotion was marketed in Philadelphia two years ago, in a campaign using TV commercials. More recently, the Philadelphia School District caused a ruckus when it added “Gay and Lesbian History Month” to its school calendar sent to 200,000 mailboxes. That permitted the system’s 35 “gay-straight alliance clubs” to recognize October with special activities.Obviously this is unacceptable. In an effort to rally his troops, Flott cites the American Family Association's self-declared victory over Wal-Mart and their fag-enabling ways. He's urging his readers to take similiar action against the Dallas Tourism board, hoping it will change it's queer-loving course.
Concerned Catholic Cathie Adams says:
As a Christian, I can say that when they supplant a fear of God and what he calls right and wrong with their god of dollar signs, it offends us morally as well as spiritually. If you get your way, Ms. Adam, it'll offend you financially, as well. But, we suppose missing out on millions of dollars in revenue's a small price to pay for being able to say, "Steers, Not Queers" and mean it.
forgive me while is stand at my dallas based pulpit for this one.
dallas texas is one of the most homophobic cities in the united states. i have sent a letter to the local "gay tourism" division to let them know that are misleading people when they make them think otherwise.
the city/state is full or right wing fundementals who only use gay people for arranging flowers, designing gowns,
planning debutante balls, weddings etc. kind of a high end homo slave vibe.
if you don't believe me, look no further than our local "alternative" newspaper called the "dallas observer".
the paper is run by and edited by julie lyons, who at one time was a lesbian, then became a pentecostal who prayed her gay away. her anti gay, anti liberal views can be seen on a weekly basis in the paper. they recently did an article praising evangelist robert tilton while putting down rev mel white's book about gay christians.
d magazine is owned and operated by right wingers.
dallas is the home of the swiftboaters.
please don't be taken in by some misleading ad campaign.
our cable access station(s) are run by pentecostal and therefore the only diversity you will see is various colors of people speaking in tongues. while this can be amusing for 10 minutes, i miss all the fun and crazy shit.
why did i move back here from los angeles? to help care for an elderly mom.
there are some very cool people in dallas. there is a strip of bars owned by one company. however, it is not like
atlanta as much as i wish it were.
so don't be thinking that you can come to dallas and walk around six flags over texas holding hands. remember, it has only been within the past decade that they stopped having the police raid gay couples bedrooms.
if you feel the need to spend money in texas, just send it directly to me.....or better yet....send it do a animal shelter.

Jack's warning is priceless. Don't be fooled by pretty words.
In your recent column "Dallas Catholics Not About Gay Tourists" you mentioned the National Catholic Reporter as the source. I do get the National Catholic Reporter and did not see the article you are referencing. However I did see the article in another Catholic paper the National Catholic Register.
From the above comments and the simple fact that "W" a.k.a. "the Great Divider" and many of his cronies are from Texas, I am deliberately avoiding that state. In fact I have made sure I do not travel there for business, I do not hold company meetings in that state, I direct my dollars to non texas-based companies.
Let that whole rotted state re-join Mexico for all I care. Texas is a neocon run republic, I feel sorry for our gay friends that persist in living there.
Isn't this the home of Bush? Isn't he sending enough $$$ to Texas, without reaching into the pockets of the gay community? My money is going to Provincetown, San Fran, DC, Detroit, Atlanta, NYC, but not Dallas/Ft. Worth. Why does any religion care about gay tourism? It won't change or help their religion if gays travel anywhere or spend money anywhere. Their right to hate gays stops where they interfere with anyone's constitutional rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, right?
Odd article.
We all need to figure out ways to bring us all up to the same level and unite.
