eBay Sinks Haggard's Cum Sponge
Did The Christian Right Squash Mike Jones' Happy Ending?

smalltable.jpg
Your dreams of owning a piece of Ted Haggard may be over. Mike Jones put the massage table where he worked over the disgraced Evangelical minister up for auction to raise money Project Angel Heart - an organization that brings food to people with HIV/AIDS.

To make sure the site had no problems with his actions, Jones had a pre-posting conversation with a representative, got the go ahead and put it up for auction. Then, nine days later, eBay's pulled the infamous table.

A company representative claims they pulled it because it violated eBay's fund raising regulations, but Jones thinks there are more insidious powers at work.

Upon hearing of the auction, the Delaware-based Transforming Congregations' Reverend Karen Booth wrote to eBay:

This item is not only offensive to any person in the eBay community who might be personally connected to Mr. Haggard, but is also highly offensive to Christians, particularly conservative evangelicals. I think it is a violation of eBay’s stated Community Values and I ask you to remove the listing from the eBay website.

I have put an alert on my ministry’s national website and have also informed other national Christian ministries, including the American Family Association. (The auction is also being discussed on several Internet blogs.) If the offensive listing is not removed, I will encourage my supporters to boycott eBay, which I also intend to do.

We wouldn't be surprised if this spurred the premature conclusion of the auction - ebay's chief executive, Meg Whitman, has a long history of donating cash to conservative causes, a political leaning exhibited most recently when she helped Mitt Romney raise dough.

During that political fundraiser, Whitman helped Romney rake in $6.5 million in a matter of hours, thus padding the conservative Republican's pockets. The Ted Haggard table, meanwhile, garnered an estimated $1275 in nine days.
Don't worry though, eBay insists that Jones can repost the table and start again. Now, aren't they generous?

Stenar says:

The eBay customer service center which sets policies for what auctions they will cancel and actually does the task of canceling them is located in suburban Salt Lake City. Almost everyone who works there is Mormon and they're very uptight folk.
