Fred Phelps Will Pay Dearly
(Actually, It's $3150)

snipshot_89vuv029lmw.jpg
Bad news for Fred Phelps and his marine-funeral picketing bandits. A Kansas judge ordered them to pay Albert Snyder $3150 for a summons and complaint Snyder filed against Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church. WBC protested at Snyder's son Lance's funeral back in March. Needless to say Albert wasn't pleased. NBC affiliate WGAL reports:

[Albert's] federal lawsuit, filed June 5, alleges church members violated the family's right to privacy and defamed the Marine and his family at the funeral and on the church's Web site.

Phelps and the church refused to grant a waiver in the serving of summonses in connection with the federal lawsuit, making the church liable for those costs.

While we totally agree with the judge, we can't help but wonder where the WBC will get money for their new band uniforms. The Westboro Baptists don't stand a chance of rocking the house without those snazzy sequins!

Too bad someone can't follow their "money-trail". We might all be surprised where that goes to.

This Westboro Baptist church not only hates the Gay-Community but African-Americans, Canada, Sweden, the Fire Department of NY, victims of 911, Christian Churches, The Pope, Judaism, America, Our American Troops, and the list goes on and on. Many of the groups they despise are specifically named on their hate propaganda, picket signs, and their many websites. They not only hate, but wish death on all that they do hate.
This sick, so called church spreads its hate through picketing in our streets, provoking attacks, with abusive vulgar language. Worst of all, they endanger their own young children, having them man the front lines in their combative demonstrations - attempting to create a confrontation and cause for one more of their frivolous lawsuits.
If a mother has given her son to this country and is putting Him in his grave, this is not the time or the place. This is not about protesters, this is about a group that calls that mother names on the way into a church to say goodbye to that son. We are not talking about FREEDOM we are talking about human decency. This is not about protesting, this is about a life of hate. They are not peaceful. They are not a "church". They go after any thing that can get them in the news. I am all for protest when there is a reason, I have been in many. This group will protest anything to get its face on TV. It is about an old man lost in the darkness of hate, but will put his six year old grandson in danger to save himself. Do we have a real need to protest at any funeral? Is that a real Freedom.
The city of Topeka, the state of Kansas and the U.S. at large, its citizens and their Churches, schools and events are all held hostage by this "hate group" - always at the tax payer's expense. With this group it is just not about Freedom. It is only about HATE.

Nathan Phelps says:

This ain't over yet folks. This is just the price they have to pay for hiding from the process servers...playing games with the judicial system. If they had taken service the first or second time someone tried to serve them, it would have been only a few hundred bucks. But...like they always do, and always have done, they like to play the games to upset people. It back fired on them this time.

Now we (Albert Snyder & the rest of the world who is fed up with their crap) get to go to trial against them. A month or so back I read an article about a woman in Florida who was ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for defaming someone on the internet. It was the first judgement of its kind where the court ruled that defamation extends to comments on the internet. I forwarded that article to Mr. Snyder so his attorneys could review the judges ruling and determine if that case could work as precedence against my family.

It's true that they have used the legal system for years to finance their campaign of hatred and I think it's a brilliant idea for Mr. Snyder and others to force my old man to rein in his evil tongue by biting him in the pocketbook.

I think Nathan got it right when he said 'they like to play games to upset people' and I'd add get attention... for whatever reason. We're dealing with some serious 9" egos here.

Out here on the plains, they've gotten attention and press... but always as total asses, which isn't all bad. I think the only way to deal with them is ignore them. Now THAT would piss them off!

Ivan Stang says:

The WBC makes its money by filing frivolous lawsuits, then intimidating defendants (they have a long history of this behavior - Phelps, Sr. was disbarred for it) in the hopes of forcing lucrative settlements. Typically they go after municipalities and deep-pocketed organizations they know will settle quickly, rather than individuals who are less likely to pony up the cash.

It works like this: when they go to "protest", the first thing they do is call the local police and say they are in fear for their lives. Then if anything at all happens (even calling them nasty names sometimes), they sue that city for not providing adequate protection. Wishing to avoid protracted legal battles and bad PR, cities are more likely to settle for larger amounts than the average private citizen. This also has the added bonus of screwing over every citizen in that city, since taxpayer dollars are used to pay legal costs and settlements.

Nothing new here, ambulance chasers have been doing this for decades. Filthy Phelps just uses this cash to fund his silly nonsense.
