Gay Teen Attacked In Colorado
Six Against One Results In Surgery

nobully.jpg
Growing up gay ain't easy. Especially when you're coming of age amidst juvenile homo-haters. While most faglings note verbal abuse, one Colorado teen got more than just fighting words last week.

Anthony Hergesheimer, 15, found himself on the receiving end of a six-person beat down. Rocky Mountain News reports:

The incident happened last Thursday afternoon, when Anthony Hergesheimer was walking home from Centennial High School along Denver Boulevard, the organization said. Six male students, ages 15 and 16, in a vehicle apparently passed by Hergesheimer several times before they stopped and hurled anti-gay insults at him.

One of the students also got out of the vehicle and threw a can of Lysol at Hergesheimer, who suffered a broken nose and severe facial injuries.

Hergesheimer's injuries were so extensive, he had to undergo plastic surgery.

The school has suspended the six unidentified boys and officials are debating whether or not to expel them. Doesn't seem like much of a debate to us - what school wants a bunch of savages running around the halls?

It's for this precise reason that states need comprehensive anti-bully laws, such as Michigan's proposed bill

"The school has suspended the six unidentified boys"

First off, these bastards should be identified widely and frquently and then the police should lay assualt charges. Let them sit in prison for a few weeks and see what getting bullied feels like.

That's funny--when I got my nose job, i said i had been in a car accident. I should said I got hit by a can of Lysol by a roaming band of homophobes!

In all seriousness, I think there's a special place in hell for these ruffians as well, but it sounds like only one actually did anything physical--and he probably didnt expect to do any or much phsyical damage. Suspend them? yes. Weeks in prison for name calling? no.

Weeks in prison, I'm not sure that's actually enough! This wasn't just a little name calling by some little 3rd graders at recess, this was an angry mob assaulting someone, this is one very small step from a lynching!
And since when should even the harassment of the name calling go unpunished. If this was a group of 30 year old white supremacists in a mall circling around a biracial couple and screaming at them you bet there would be some charges. Especially after one of them gets physical.
What these boys did is criminal and they should be punished accordingly. It sickens me that people refuse to make that connection. It's saying "it's OK, you shouldn't actually be punished, you only tried to kill a homo and after all they're not real people."

I agree with Nate; this isn't some "boys will be boys" taunting. This is assault and should be punished accordingly.

I never could get how these "real men" gang up on sissies. Wouldn't one on one be a "fair fight"? and they call US the girly men! I agree that some time in adult jail would teach them real fast all about homosex - let the punishment fit the crime, as Pooh-Bah says.

Three words: Concealed-carry permit. Enough is enough; it's time to start fighting back. Do you want to be victims forever?

John says:

The violence in our schools is disgraceful.

Unfortunately, anti-bullying legislation is a beginning, not an end. Will lawmakers go to every high school in the state to make sure that their will is being enforced? Of course not.

They depend on local administrators to do their jobs. Unfortunately, the administrators are hired by elected school boards that care more about politics (and winning over bigoted parents) than safety.

Thus, we end up with the same apathetic, indifferent, and incompetent administrators that high schools have been attracting for decades. And the abuse will continue because they won't do anything about it.

In states that do have anti-bullying statutes, like California, schools have been dismally bad at preventing attacks and disciplining perpetrators. Rather, angry victims have had to resort to using the law to sue the school district for compensation...after the fact. Sadly, these laws are mere bandages, not the vaccination they were intended to be.

They gang up on us sissies because they want/need male on male body contact but they don't know how to express their desire for male love.

One reason to expel them, at least for the year: what kind of fucked up shit is that kid going to go through? After having to deal with that, he's not going to exactly feel *safe* in his school - and since they were the ones who instigated this mess, everything should be done to accomodate his safety - including expelling them if necessary.

As far as the "only one of them actually did anything physical" argument - they all sped away in the same car, I'm assuming. Therefore, under the eyes of our law, they're all ACCOMPLICES. Each one is as guilty as the next. The same would be said if they robbed a bank or if any had knowledge that others in the group committed fraud.

Paul Raposo says:

dizzy spins, these jackasses abused him at school repeatedly; followed him home; stalked him; verbally abused him; and assaulted him all because they didn't like the fact that he is gay. After being suspened what do you think they should do, write out 1,000 times, "I will not be a meany"? Violent homophobic kids grow up to be violent homophobic adults.

It's pathetic that you find physical assualt laughable.
