In more hopeful presidential hopeful news, Hillary Clinton finally got it over with and threw her hat into the '08 race, while New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson started up the ever-important exploratory committee.
Certainly a controversial figure, Clinton's viewed by some as the most viable candidate. Democrats, however, fear her past will come back to haunt her. 365 Gay reports:
Many Democrats, eager to reclaim the White House after eight years of President Bush, fret that she carries too much baggage from her husband's scandal-plagued presidency to win a general election. Among many voters, she is best known for her disastrous attempt in 1993 to overhaul the nation's health care system and for standing by her husband after his marital infidelity. To overcome these obstacles, Clinton intends to flaunt her opposition to President Bush and keen knowledge of foreign affairs as two of her biggest advantages.

Governor Richardson's also touting his international experience. The New York Times reports:
Mr. Richardson has served as a congressman, as well as United Nations ambassador and energy secretary under President Bill Clinton. Today, he emphasized his international experience in his announcement that he would seek the nomination, saying that as United Nations ambassador, he worked to build alliances and help prevent the development of nuclear weapons in North Korea.Announcing his intentions, Richardson insisted he'd work to repair the damage incurred under the Bush administration.
If elected, Clinton and Richardson could become the first female and Hispanic president, respectively. And don't forget Barack Obama. He's black, you know. If only they could all run together. It'd be a virtual rainbow coalition. In the Jesse Jackson, sense, not the gay sense. None of them support gay marriage, preferring the great political fall back: civil unions. Shame...
I've never seen a term more overused than "baggage" as it relates to Hillary Clinton.
ps I wonder if it's a synonym for "she's a woman".
What I wouldn't give to see the clintons in office again
