Journo Takes On Elton John's Month Old Statements Taking on Religion

Johnsmall.jpg
You kids may remember an interview between Elton John and Jake Shears in which Sir Elton admonished organized religion, insisting that it should be abolished. Speaking through The Observer, John said:

From my point of view I would ban religion completely... But the reality is that organised religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate...
Okay, the statement itself's not that inflammatory, but John fame helped fuel an international stink. While we thought people had forgotten all about it, Andy Selepak from the the so-called media watchdog group Accuracy in Media decided now's the perfect time to rehash the debate. He writes:
One is tempted to respond to this rant with the title of Laura Ingraham's book about Hollywood: Shut Up and Sing.

But there is another thing to consider: Why aren't Elton John's hateful comments as controversial as Michael Richards' anti-black "comic" diatribe? Is it because being scornful of religion is "in" among the entertainment and Hollywood elites?

Um, John's statements can't really be compared to Richards' "nigger"-infused rant because, well, racism in America strikes far deeper than religious animosity. Sure, the two have worked together, but to call someone a nigger's far more offensive than calling someone a gentile. But, whatever...

Selepak goes on to dissect John's every syllable (including a totally unjust comparison between John's words on religion and his regret over not having sex in his teens), after which he concludes:

Elton John's convoluted message to the masses is: Religion should be outlawed because it promotes hatred towards homosexuals, that religious hatred is leading us towards World War III, and the only way to prevent another world war is for musicians to solve all the world's problems.

It is comforting to know that if the world would all hold hands and sing Tiny Dancer we would all be safer. But frankly, I'd rather hear Randy Travis sing Three Wooden Crosses.

Well, we'd much rather have musicians running the country than conservacunts like Selepak, so we're even.

rene says:

Calling someone a nigger and speaking out against a religious organization are completly different. You are degrading someone for their race, something you have no control over. A religious organization is mutable, and we can chose how to worship...and if enough people believe it neads to change it will or it will cease to be a exist. he is stating his opinion on that orgainzation.

H. Lewis Smith says:

INTRODUCING THE BENEDICT ARNOLD LIST

Inaugural Nominees: Daman Wayans and John Ridley

Los Angeles, CA., – H. Lewis Smith, author of Bury that Sucka and Founder/CEO of United Voices for a Common Cause,Inc. announces UVCC’s Benedict Arnold list as is so described:

PURPOSE: No longer is it acceptable to trample upon the memories and honor of those who were tarred and feathered, burnt alive, castrated, hung, boiled alive, sodomized and tortured with hot pokers, disemboweled, unmercifully tortured in countless numbers of other ways, all in the name of the n-word simply because since the victims were considered to be a n***er it was okay to perform such atrocious, despicable acts. And yet as evil and heinous as these acts were there is something that transcends it and that is descendants of these canonized victims taking the word n***er and embracing it with tender loving care and using it endearingly and affectionately among them. How idiotic and moronic can this possibly be?

ELIGIBILILTY REQUIREMENTS: Consideration to be placed on the Benedict Arnold list is as follows: Blatantly showing by act and deeds a determination to undermine the African American community with a defiant public display and intent to use and promote usage of a word that is disrespectful, dishonorable to the memories of those who suffered physically, mentally and emotionally…the n-word.

Qualifiers of the Benedict Arnold list shall henceforth be looked upon as the village idiots of the community. To further clarify the criteria distinguishing who makes the list and who doesn’t among the proponents in favor of the word. It is not intended to try and nail everyone to the cross. It’s only when someone like a John Ridley or Daman Wayans who publicly…in a defiant, determined and perverse manner supports undermining the Black community by pledging allegiance to the n-word, then and only then will those names be added to the Benedict Arnold list.

In accordance with the aforementioned eligibility requirements the following have been found to be eligible to have their names placed on this list and why it is so moved.

JOHN RIDLEY as result of his verbal public defiance and insistence on referring to African Americans as the n-word and his writing of “Manifesto of Ascendancy of the Modern American N***er ” is hereby placed on the Benedict Arnold list.

DAMAN WAYANS as a result of his verbal public defiance and insistence on referring to African Americans as the n-word and his attempts in trying and still trying, though he has been turned down time and time again to register the name nigga as a trademark to be used as a marketable item for a clothesline and other marketable items, is hereby placed on the Benedict Arnold list.
