Mike Rogers Holds His Own Against O'Reilly
And We Wouldn't Expect Anything Less...

From one conservative to another. Here's a clip from last night's episode of The O'Reilly Factor on which Mike Rogers, publisher of Page OneQ and Blogactive, yaks it up about the Foley scandal.

Well done, Mikey, especially on not laughing when O'Reilly said, "I fear the homosexual community in America is going to be damaged by this whole thing, because people (certainly not O'Reilly, of course) are just going to go they, generalizing, can't control themselves." Anyone who can hold it together in the face of O'Reilly saying he actually cares about gay people deserves an Oscar.

Regardless, Rogers certainly hold his own, and even promises to out some more closeted GOPers. We're salivating...

Not bad at all, I was impressed. Outing people is, I think, a moral gray area, I guess I could support it when its legislators who support anti-gay legislation. I do have to credit Rogers on holding his own against O'Reilly, who usually tears his libreral guests a new asshole!

I totally agree. Mike did really well, especially for not trying to go after O'Reilly's masked (he did try to mask it, didn't he?) homophobia. Go Mike!

o'reilly's spiel is always whatever-gay-men-do-hurts-them so no suprises there. i think rogers did well to point out that there are differences between pedos and gay men and closeted and out gay men since most folks DO lump them all together whether or not he believes that they do.
what has frustrated me in all the foley coverage though is everyone flinging around words like pedophile, minors, under-age, and such when, in this case, 16 is the legal age of consent and the "kid" in question was 17 or 18 and, as bill put it, was 21 before foley "took 'it' further"
one may find the age difference to be icky or the power differential or gay sexuality in general, but this 'scandal' has nothing whatsoever to do with luring children into illegal activities .. but EVERYone fom the fbi to nancy pelosi to bill o'reilly to the new york times to the washington times has fallen into the same language. i'd love to see someone stand up to say that this has all been much ado about very little, and that the IMs were exchanged by willing participants of legal age, so everyone can go get their jollies elsewhere and let's get back to something that really matters... but i'm not holding my breath.

Mike Rogers did a great job. He also did a great job on the Ed Schultz radio show. I don't believe in "outing" people simply because they are gay. That is a personal decision. But as Mike points out, outing people because they are hypocrites is more than fair game. After all, we are talking about a group of individuals (Republicans) who have systematically attacked gay positive leglislation and who used gay issues to drive a wedge between the American voters. Sorry, but it is about time we started playing hardball too!

Being in a position for blackmail is a matter of risking national security, not of privacy. Congressmen often are privy to classified material, and the last thing the DoI, CIA, FBI wants to do is put classified material into the hands of someone blackmailable, and refuse to give such people a security clearance. In a word, closeted gays do not belong in any governemt position that includes seeing sensitive material. In this case closeted gays have been sought and likely fast tracked for the ability to control their votes. Anyone wanting to be cleared, needs to be an open book, and present no oppty blackmail.

We all know that this party has been run on the fuel of blackmail, and bribery for a long time, and the country has a right to defend itself from such corruption of democracy, and out any members of government that put us at risk through their secrecy.
