US Bishop Takes on Rowan Williams
Anglican Smackdown Imminent

ladywilliams.jpg
Tension are high as the Anglican Communion prepares for its annual international meeting later this month. You may recall that Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams recently spoke about a possible schism. Well, now American Bishop Paul Marshall of Pennsylvania has been speaking about Williams. Accusing Williams of neglecting the liberal voice, Marshall derides the Anglican leader for quieting the debate on homosexuality.

The Times reports:

Bishop Marshall, who has been condemned as "revisionist" by conservatives, says Dr Williams has made a "laughing stock" of the US church over the gay issue... Bishop Marshall, writing with what he describes as "regret and trembling", says he is not asking Dr Williams to agree with him, even if the actions of the US church were inspired by some of Dr Williams’ own teachings when he was a more liberal academic.

He says: "He doesn’t have to receive communion. He doesn’t have to eat or hang out with us. He certainly ought to meet us face-to-face and accept accountability for his breathtaking words and actions."

The article also mentions that Williams has done an about-face since taking over as leader of the massive movement. His liberal views on homosexuality helped his appointment, but since being installed they've distintegrated, replaced by less lenient views.

You know what, we think that rather than having a conference, the Bishops should just have a throw-down to see who leads the movement. We can have Marshall duke it out with Williams, while controversial female Bishop Katharine Schori can go head-to-head with Peter Akinola. You know that bitch will win, too. Akinola may speak tough, but we suspect he's a big old pussy. Plus, feminists be damned: a man shouldn't hit a woman. Come to think of it, a man really shouldn't hit a man, either. But, desperate times...

Mark Fletcher says:

I like Rowan Williams a lot. He clearly has the toughest job in the Church of England, and yet he pulls it off with grace and authority. I decided I would like a Rowan T Shirt, but I couldn’t find one, so I made it myself. If you like it you can buy one too.
