Right now it is illegal for trannies to get sexual reassignment surgery in Vietnam, but the health ministry just announced that legislation will be prepared to make it legal following similar guidelines as are used in the U.S. The ministry official's statement said, "As written in the Civil Code, people have the right to identify their own sex. The new decree would ensure these rights."

Following the passage of the new legislation, trannies can partake of the surgery following medical and psychological tests that will determine "what their actual sex is."
