Virginia Tech Massacre Was the Fags' Fault, Naturally
Those Westboro Baptists is at it a'gin!

westborobaptists.jpg

The crew over at Opus Gay sent us a heads-up about the notorious Westboro Baptist Church which just formally announced that they would be disgracing the dignity of—er, "preaching," as they say, during the funerals of the victims of yesterday's senseless Virginia Tech massacre.

Our hearts went out to everyone involved in yesterday's senseless tragedy. Seeing no gay peg to the story, however (only blind, horrendous violence), we stood back and let the mainstream news do its thing. Thanks for showing us the error of our ways, WBC! The Virginia Tech Massacre, Katrina—hell, global warming is probably even our fault!

Bastards.

I am not a member of the Gay Community, nor a Christian. However, I do think that you should be ashamed to trivialize such a horrific and selfish act in Virginia, and try and spin publicity to your cause. The beliefs of right wing Christians should be the last thing that should be on your minds. All of humanity should learn to embrace each other despite our differences, and your community should be leading the pack. Just one chat with the Coward from Virginia Tech could have prevented this entire catastrophe. Please take from these comments that hatred knows no race color or gender and neither does a bullet. When we can all begin to look at each other with the respect of human decency and life, only then will we all be equal.

I \ resent your comment Chris. I think your heart is in the right place, because yes, this is a huge tragedy and it exposes some severe flaws within our society. However after being blamed for 9/11 and Katrina I think we have every right to speak out against right wing Christians who want to act like fools and blame something horrific on us.

Would you *dare* post that kind of comment to a different blog if Mel Gibson blamed the VT shooting on the Jews? Or if Don Imus blamed it on Rutgers Basketball?

btw, if hate knows anything its color, gender, sexuality, religion, ect. Sorta why we're a little pissed at the Phelpses here.

Hi,
As a Christian the Phelpses have long been a painful subject. I'd just like to pass on to you it's been my experience that by far the best approach to these people is to diligently refuse them any attention. Hopefully the courts will find a legal solution to keep them away from funerals. But really, these are mentally ill people who feed on attention, it's like feeding those little monsters in that movie who then go on to destroy the house. I'm really sorry they use God's name like that. I'm sorry they pretend to be Christians. Please don't hold it against the real Christians. They're just abused nutjob children and hopefully they'll be stopped soon. I'm sorry.

WBC, you are a disgusting group of people. You have no respect for anyone, except for your worthless selves. I can not believe you would even touch the subject of the tragedy that happened at Virginia Tech. All you do is walk around judging and hating anyone that is not in your “church”. It’s funny that you claim “god hates fags”, when I’m pretty confident god doesn’t hate anyone. Apparently you’re not the one reading the bible. And, if god hated anyone, I can assure you that you would be at the top of his list. I love how you write about all the people that are being sent to hell for their sins, when your days come be sure to let us know what that’s like.

I don't condone violence, but honestly.... Due course takes too long sometimes, ya know? To think someone could take the message of Christianity, that Christ died for all out of a supreme love for the world He created, and twist it back to the days of the Crusades and the Inquisition, the darkest days in Christendom when the Truth was perveted for the desires of a few. Although I have no affilitation with the WBC, I feel I must apologize for their "wickedness," to use one of their terms. So say that God hates Gays, and Jews, and Catholics and anyone that is not like you. but wait a second. Wasn't Jesus (you know, the Savior, Messiah, Christ) Hebrew...... and Hebrews are Jews. So then I guess He hates his Chosen people and his own Son. The Catholics...... well didn't they kinda spread his name even further after they were formed. and the Gays. Well technically they are all human like the rest of us, which means they are people. and weren't we ALL created in his image? and wasn't the fall of Adam and Eve the fall for all of man kind makeing us all sinners and unworthy? but then wait a second...... Christ came and died and was raised again on the third day and took the sins of the world upon his back for ALL. so wouldn't that included all of the above? and weren't many of his friends the biggest sinners around while the holy men hide behind their hypocricy. and didn't Jesus himself say that it was those sinners that were the worst that actually meant and were humbled in their prayer that were more righteous then the "holy"men that allowed their pride to overflow into their prayers. ....... So I guess WBC, haven't you ever read the scripture about not trying to remove the spec from your brother's eye until you first remove the plank from your own. Virginia Tech was not God getting even with the sinners. It is a mark of the end times when Satan and his minions (aka the shooter) start to take over and put fear into the world instead of the hope we all need.

I am a Christian, and let me start off by saying that WE'RE NOT ALL CRAZY!! So don't even say that the Christians will blame everything on gays. That's just not okay. I don't have anything against gay people, because it is a sin, but so is lying and a sin is a sin is a sin. They're all bad, but we all sin. Therefore, yall should not be blaming Christians for this...it's WBC that you should be blaming. There are crazy people in all religions, races, sexual orientations, etc.

What happened at Virginia Tech is no doubt a tragedy. It devastated our nation, and I think we should all look upon it as just that - a tragedy. WBC is absolutely insane for trying to blame it on people and praise God for it.

I've known about WBC for a while now, and when I heard what they're trying to say about VT, I was enraged. One of the victims, Ryan Clark, was actually from my hometown in Georgia. WBC had made plans to picket his memorial service, which made me want to attend the service to show my support for everyone there EXCEPT them. Unfortunately, my uncle's funeral was the same day and I could not, but apparently someone did. The cops kept WBC from Ryan's family and friends.

Bottom line, we need to let these crazy folks know we stand in full support--OF EVERYONE EXCEPT THEM. They call themselves Christians, but we, as Christians are called to LOVE. They don't love.
