SA Military Student Smashed For Sexuality?
Internet Postings Allege Anti-Gay Attack

prpSAH.jpg
South Africa has the world's most progressive constitution. Some students looking to defend that constitution, however, aren't so progressive. An anonymous pupil at the University of Stellenbosch's Military Academy alleges his classmates pummeled him after finding out he's gay.

The Independent reports:

In postings on the university's website, a student claims he was targeted after "someone" at the campus discovered his sexual orientation and "spread" this news.
...
"That evening, they got me in the street. They started pushing me and hitting me with sticks and said that they do not want a 'fag' in the army.

"I had a broken rib and fractured arm when they eventually stopped."

A school spokesperson insists that they would never "condone victimization" and encourages the perpetrators to "come forward". Um, right...

The secretary of the University's gay group, Lara Aucamp says:

At Stellenbosch (University), people are quite accepting and things like that generally don't happen, but it seems to be happening at the academy quite a lot, and there are no channels for support.
One hopes that now some people will start asking and telling at this military academy. Can't have a bunch of homo-hating thugs defending the Rainbow Nation, now can we?

Rainbow nation in disguise, really. It's all about the blacks now, I personally think the whole Gay rights etc. thing is just a distraction from the reality, ie. murder of whites and so on, which is why I left.

In all honestly, David, it doesn't matter whether rainbow nation, gender equality, and gay rights are a disguise or not.

The United States Congress, European Parliament, and UN Security Council are never, ever going to criticize the ANC. The legacy of resistance/sanctions against Apartheid runs deep. Nelson Mandela is a worldwide folk hero. And white South Africans (liberal or conservative, straight or gay, rich or poor) are all considered "guilty by default" in the eyes of the international community.

And constantly making racist comments about the incompetence of "the blacks" isn't exactly helping white South Africans redeem their poor reputation abroad. You need to hire a better public relations firm or collectively go into rehab (or something).

David says:

That's the point, if all South Africans are viewed negatively in the International community, the International community are fools.

Certainly, I don't believe they are viewed negatively, unless the situation becomes racial or there's an argument regarding it. Where I am, in Australia, there's loads of South Africans and they are treated normally, no one ever mentions anything about their "racist" past, because in reality, most of them aren't even racist. The truly "racist" conservative South Africans wouldn't leave the country, because they would have too much "love" for their land.

David, quite why you made your initial silly racially-focused comment is unclear. You're misinformed. Stellenbosch University is an Afrikaans-language, largely white institution. Although the military academy is more mixed than most of its faculties, included amongst the perpetrators of this violence were most likely a number of nice white churchgoing youths. Your it's-all-the-blacks'-fault petticoat is trailing behind you in the dust. Shame.

David says:

The initial comment had no reference to the article posted, it was just a random thought.

I understand the situation of the article, and as Jean said. Apologies if I didn't make it clear enough.

I never said it was the fault of the blacks community, all I said was that they are now the focus, ie. affirmative action (blacks being given jobs instead of qualified whites), in many aspects, reverse Apartheid, despite the nation now being a "rainbow" society, or at least that's what we're lead to believe. Whites are now being discriminated against.
