Hundreds of Sacramento-area students rallied to support four students suspended for wearing anti-gay shirts. One participant said: "It's only going to get worse against Christians. We're going to get persecuted more and more. But those who stand to the end: God is going to save them." Um, right...

Suicide

Queerty Says: "Don't Do It!"

Suicide ain't sexy. But, for some reason, a lonely m4mer has decided to use craigslist's men seeking men section to bemoan the death of his dreams. It seems this chap ran into an old NYU film professor - a "real mentor", he says - and has been on a downward spiral ever since.

Four years of the top film school in the country and where am I now? ...I cannot accept not doing what I want, yet I am just too old to now compete with 22 yr old kids willing to work for nothing. I am fucked.
...
I really feel like killing myself. ...I just want to die. I don't even like Manhattan anymore - no relationship, no friends, not doing the job I want. Why get out of bed every morning? Why should I? I really just want to die - suicide will be my most artistic accomplishment.
Yes, a number of artists have cemented their iconic status with a flip - or, rather, slit - of the wrist, but these people were established before they offed themselves. So, we don't think it will be your most artistic accomplishment - unless you think of something really creative. But, of course, you could use that mental energy to do something better than killing yourself, mister.

In Queerty's professional opinion, you should put down the gun, knife, rope or whatever (none of which are really creative, FYI) and buck up. Sure, it looks gloomy now, but things will perk up. Speaking of perking up- why don't you use the m4m pages to get some dick? That'll lift your mood. Or, at the very least, provide a more productive channel for your frustrations.

Either it's just the cold weather in British Columbia, or lesbian teens are not getting the kind of outreach they need in the province, according to a new study by the McCreary Centre Society that reveals a shocking 38% percent of lesbian teens have attempted suicide. Compare this to the 8.2% of straight girls and 8.8% of gay boys, and you have a visible problem.

We haven't seen similar data in the United States, but we doubt that the consistently progressive province of BC is the only place with these numbers. The director of the McCreary Centre, a nonprofit organization concerned with youth health issues, says that lesbians suffer because they are "not as readily identified for help," which we interpret to mean that all the queeny boys are grabbing the attention of advocacy organizations while the less in-your-face lesbians are getting the shaft.

Usually we send you to funny and snarky links and stories. But sometimes we see something so powerful that even we feel like getting serious. Kenneth Morrison is a spoken word artist who wrote the poem At 13. This movie features Mr. Morrison’s dedication to his friend Devon. Devon was an African America, gay, teenager. He also took his life at the age of 13. This is powerful stuff.
