Hundreds of Sacramento-area students rallied to support four students suspended for wearing anti-gay shirts. One participant said: "It's only going to get worse against Christians. We're going to get persecuted more and more. But those who stand to the end: God is going to save them." Um, right...

Union The First of Its Kind

swissmtn.jpg
Gay marriage in Switzerland may have become legal back in 2005, but the country didn't celebrate their first homo-nups until yesterday. Though they would rather not be identified, an 89-year old and 60-year old man officiated their 30 year love, thus taking advantage of the same rights bequeathed straight couples (less fertility and adoption rights). Of the blessed event, guest and LGBT activist Donatella Zappa said:

It was very moving. At some point I think we all had tears in our eyes... The fact that there are couples who have made their union legal and official will serve as a model.
Sure, it's definitely a model, although the message would probably be more resounding if the men would reveal their names.

Regardless of their cowardice, we love hearing about elder gays marrying one another. In fact, such news thaws out our otherwise cold, dead hearts and even produces a tear. We'd allow more, but all the moisture burns into our skin and then we look like Freddy Krueger and then we just cry more because no one wants to sleep with a mutant-looking monster. It's not cute and really quite painful.

(You may be wondering why we put a picture of a mountain, rather than a rainbow flag or something overtly gay like that. Well, we think it's pretty, that's why. And we were just watching The Sound of Music...)

Or, Getting Creative with Weapons

prisons2.jpg
We've got to get something off our chest: we've got a total internet crush on Christopher Trottier, the sexy British boy behind the irreverently intriguing blog, quixoticals.

Today he brings us two notable entries. The first discusses how scientists have resurrected a long-dormant retrovirus not dissimilar to HIV. It seems that the nasty little bug was so powerful that it left a permanent stain on the human genome. Interesting, right?
oppenehimer.jpg
While the second one's not as scientifically-minded, we think it's worth a mention. It seems Mr. Trottier found himself at a website devoted to confiscated prison weapons. He chose his favorite - a sharpened ruler - and wrote a nice little blurb on prison mentality, survival etc, etc...

Well, we navigated on over to said site and found our top pick, pictured above. We can't help but wonder, however, what the fuck someone would do with such a thing. What is it, anyway? A spoon wrapped in hair?

We don't think that's a weapon, we think that's a lonely, frustrated prisoner's humble attempt to mimic artist Swiss artist Meret Oppenheimer's infamous Fur Lined Teacup (pictured, bottom)

That's no criminal! That's an artist fighting a creative blockage! Next thing you know, it'll be on the auction block for five-figures. Imagine all the sharpened rulers you could buy...

Infections Doubled Over Three Years

HIV.jpg
While the boys from Feast of Fools are fighting AIDS in Africa, health officials in Switzerland are reeling from statistics pointing to a horrific rise of HIV among gay men.

Swiss Info reports:

The number of new HIV infections among gay and bisexual men in Switzerland has almost doubled over the past three years....In 2005, 49.3 per cent of all men diagnosed as HIV-positive were gay or bisexual, whereas they represented 36.5 per cent in 2004.

Officials say that the sharp increase stems from lack of awareness and a lowering of sexual guards in the age of medical advancements.

What's more, administrators hold the internet at least partially responsible:

The Federal Health Office also highlights the growth in internet chat sites, which enable people to meet in different places from traditional locations, such as saunas and sex clubs, which are targeted by prevention campaigns.

Some scary shit, that.

• A Congressional candidate in North Carolina has put out a new radio ad featuring mariachi music that warns against the dangers of America becoming "one big fiesta for illegal aliens and homosexuals." That sounds kind of fun to us. [Raw Story]
