Premiere Queer Defender Steps Up To The Plate

polandpin2.jpg
Things in Poland are getting nastier, if you can believe it. You may recall Lurch-like Education Minister Roman Giertych proposed banning gay teachers and, in fact, any gay discussion from the nation's schools - a move that's irked the European Parliament. Well, now, a representative from the "children's rights" ministry has suggested compiling an entire list of gay-verboten professions.

Writing in Poland's Dziennik, Ewa Sowińska insists, We must prepare a list of jobs, where homosexual people will be banned". This move, of course, would stop the sissie scourge, thus giving Poland a step up in the contest for worst human rights violator in history.

Meanwhile, another group of politicians are suggesting a ban on porn, even the straight kind. Under the proposed prohibition, persons found with skin rags will be sentenced to a minimum of one year in jail, where they'll have nothing to do but wank. Really clever.

The plight of Polish gays may seem futile, but there's at least one man determined to stop the evil twins - Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński and President Lech Kaczyński - and their repressive reign of terror: Szymon Niemiec.

Indeed...

Ah, yes, the beginning of yet another week. A little wild. A bit hectic. And, yes, very manic. You might even say today's "just another manic Monday". The Bangles certainly would and, in fact, do, in this 1986 chart-topper from their album, Different Light.

We listened to this song non-stop as children (and, of course, "Walk Like an Egyptian"), but didn't quite grasp its true meaning until much, much later. But, now we realize that truer words have never been spoken...

Sometimes All You Have To Do Is Ask...

Let's celebrate our forthcoming collective weekend with a little Rick James, shall we?

(PS: The girl in the video looks so unhappy to be there - even when she's allegedly won over by Rick's loving words, innate charm and unbelievable braids.)

Their Love Is Totally Real

A reader sent us an email wondering if we'd be interested in featuring a video of En Vogue's "Free Your Mind". Now, we've been thinking of En Vogue a lot recently so we agreed to post an EV vid. We're not much in the mood for "Free Your Mind", though, so we decided on our childhood jam, "Giving Him Something He Can Feel".

Oh, You've Got Our Attention, Alright

Just in case those Hollywood homos weren't inspirational enough, perhaps you'd like to sap some of The Pretenders' lead singer Chrissie Hynde's confidence.

In case you're too young and/or musically ignorant to know, this here's the video of Brass in Pocket from the British pseudo-punk certainly-rockers' self-titled debut. They since went on to record over a dozen albums, but none reached such chart-topping success. No matter, though, they're still fucking radical. Enjoy!

Whatever You Do, Don't Let Go

We were actually looking for "Picture Book" by British soul-popsters Simply Red, but came across this video of 1985's fan-favorite, "Holding Back The Years", instead. It hits you right there (imagine us hitting the space where a heart once beat.)

It's so soulful, we thought it a Lionel Richie tune. Or someone less white, at least...

You Deserve It, Too...

Fans and critics alike are awaiting the release of LCD Soundsystem's second album, Sound of Silver. The side-project of DFA Records founder James Murphy, LCDS first caught the collective cultural eye back in 2005 with their single, Losing My Edge, but wouldn't become DJ staples until the release of "Daft Punk is Playing at My House". Their self-titled full-length debut garnered them two Grammy awards and cemented their status as one of the most inventive - and, more importantly, entertaining - electronic collectives of recent years.

Here's the video for their immensely popular single, "Disco Infiltrator".

We All Bop...

Let's celebrate some actual sexual liberation, shall we? Cyndi Lauper's third single from She's So Unusual, "She Bop" caused a stir with its poorly veiled allusions to masturbation and sexual frankness. In this video from 1984, Lauper saves America's fast food eating, zombified teenagers find some finger licking fun.

If only she could do the same for Andrew Comiskey and his homo-repressing homies.

Get Excited...

We've all been itching for a Junior Boys music video and today our collective dream comes true with this visual rendition of "Count Souvenir" from their 2006 release, So This is Goodbye.
Founding members Johnny Dark and Jeremy Greenspan came together in 1999. Dark couldn't take the rejections and soon left Greenspan to pursue his own career. Seemingly shit out of luck, Greenspan remained undeterred and began working with Matt Didemus. The gents grew a small yet loyal fan base through a few EPs and then garnered more praise with their 2004 full-length, Last Exit.

Anyway, enjoy the video. Especially you, "bobo".

(Also, the boys are pulling a DJ Shadow and asking for fan videos for any track off So This is Goodbye. Give it a shot.) You could win a $1000. As if that's not enough, the boys are throwing in three free downloads. Aren't they sweet?)

We Like You Just The Way You Are...

We wish we could say we're tired of British-songster Mika's single "Grace Kelly" from his forthcoming album, Life in Cartoon Motion, but we're not. In fact, we love it more with each listen. If you haven't heard it, we think you'll love it. If you have heard it, we think you'll love him performing on Late Night with Jools Holland. Why? Because we know you better than you know yourself.

Get pumped, because the album drops February 7th and we have a feeling it's going to be inescapable.

Go Ahead and Scream...

A reader told us to check out the video of Dutch DJ Mason's electro-engagement with American rapper Princess Superstar for their singlular collaboration, "Perfect Exceeder". So, we did. We liked it and now we're passing it on to you. Maybe one day we can have a dance together...

The Pain is, in fact, over...

Obviously we're going to use this morning's Morning Aural feature to feature the aural stylings of freshly faggotized Kele Okereke and his Bloc Party homies. This here's the video for their single, "Two More Years". The lyrics are particularly prescient. And, yes, we've pasted them after the jump. Feel free to sing along. Your co-workers will love it...
