Sarah Vaughn Sent Artist's Life in New Direction

RRH2A.jpg
We're sorry to make you wait so long, but we wanted to build a little suspense. As promised, here's part two of our interview with queer artist, Robert W. Richards. In part one, Richards gave us a little background on his life growing up in Maine, moving away, finding his his first love and surviving his first tumultuous, yet symbiotic relationship.

In this conclusion, Richards chats about a veritable pot pourri of subjects, including living with Peggy Lee, working on Grand Theft Auto, hitchhiking for the sake of music and how he's achieved his ultimate artistic goal.

Get Shit From Both Sides of Sexual Divide

It appears even nerds don't like gay people. A survey out of The University of Illinois - "The Gaymer Survery - finds that 52% of the 10,000 respondents think that gay gamers face discrimination. It's a tragic situation, one researcher Jason Rockwood hopes his findings will help alleviate:

Gay gamers experience a double-edged sword of prejudice. The mainstream gay culture and media is not supportive of video games. Then you have the video game culture that is not supportive of gay culture... I'm hoping this survey would shed some light on how or why people go through such a process.
Don't we already know how and why people go through this "process"? People don't like homos, people tell homos they don't like them, homos get sad. Pretty straight-forward, actually.

But, kidding aside, we're totally serious when we say we're sorry for anything negative we've ever said about you gaymers. We had no idea you had things so rough. It sounds like a virtual nightmare.

The survey also found that gaymers are more likely to choose attractive avatars than their hetero counterparts. Good to know you kids are just as superficial as the rest of us...

We Could Have Told You That...

Lbritainvideo.jpg
We've never understood the concept of video games based on television shows. We saw a commercial for the Desperate Housewives game and were confused for weeks.

While the sudster's virtual conversion perplexed us, it seems the Little Britain's computerized incarnation's pissed off Eurogamer's James Lyon. He describes the digital diversion thus:

Irredeemably awful. It's an affront to licensed videogames. It's a title that needs to be placed in a trebuchet and slung directly into the heart of the Daily Mail in order to teach them a thing or two on what kind of vile game they should really be campaigning against.
Well, good thing we never planned on playing it.

In fact, we probably wouldn't have even covered it had our sources over GayGamer not provided us with this image of gay actor Matt Lucas' Vicky Pollard doing some sort of fart-fueled skate trick. Seriously, we haven't seen anything that good since those John Roberts videos.

Or, Lessons In The Laughable

kratos.jpg
A group of gay gamers are taking on Games Radar over the website's preposterous article, "Are They Gay" in which they dissect a number of video game characters to find out what makes them, well, gay.

For example, the game-obsessed geeks take a look at Kratos from the video game, Gods of War:

Sure, he's violent, full of rage and enjoys pleasuring generously breasted ladies, but he's still a buff, bald-headed, semi-naked Greek Adonis that isn't shy of flashing an inch or two of thigh. He also 'accidentally' killed his wife and daughter. Which probably means he's got a grudge against women. Or something.
Sure, it's a bit offensive and perpetuates negative stereotypes (are there really any others?) that gay men hate women, but it's not really that disrespectful. It's just plain absurd.

...Right Up In The Air

Here's a little Janis Joplin singing "Raise Your Hand". Why? Because she's fucking rad, that's why. And, also, she's right on the money, honey.

This Too Shall Pass

We've selected Modest Mouse's "Float On" for three reasons: First, it's playing on our stereo and we thought playing it would be a way of getting closer to you in a not really getting close sorta way.

Second, in a few seemingly endless hours we'll all be released into the wilds known as the weekend. It's tempting to get a bit discouraged as the minutes tick by, but let's use the indie trio's message to keep our spirits up.

Third, we think the video's pretty fucking rad. Enjoy!

Dance It Out, Baby. Dance it Out...

The week after the holidays can be a total bummer. After all the build-up and celebrations, we're thrust back into our puny, meaningless lives. Shitty, no?

Well, to combat the post-holiday blues, let's all get up and have a little dance with Jeans Team.

We have to admit, we dont know that much about the German-based quartet other than that it's comprised of some lads named Franz Schütte, Reimo Herford, Gunter Kreis and Henning Watkinson, they once toured Scandanavia with Peaches and that we're really into this video for their 2002 single, "Keine Melodien".

Sure, it's in German and we haven't the foggiest what they're singing about, but the video's pretty fucking trippy (Andrew Sullivan, you'll love it) and the beat makes us bounce, so it balances out.

For more on Jeans Team, check out their website. Don't worry, it's in English.

A Subculture on The Rise, Complete With Clever Codes

Rockstar Games' most recent game, Bully, is notable for two reasons: first and foremost, it gives nerds the world over an opportunity to kick the shit out of virual bullies; second, it features a few homos who lock lips. While the release sparked a controvery, it also pointed to a queer trend in the gaming industry.

To celebrate said trend, Australia's SX News has a piece on the rise of gay gamers, a community most evident in the 2200-strong Gaymer.org community (read: nerd convention). Outlining some remarkable trends, not least of all Bully and a gay-friendly Sims, the article reasserts that gay games are a relatively small component of the multi-billion dollar industry.

Of this, known gay gamer Chris Vizzini says:

We’re not asking game developers to jam a gay character in every single upcoming video game. It simply may not fit the storyline. But when a story lends itself to a situation where it would be possible for the player to have the choice to go left or right, some of us will want to go left, if you catch my drift.
Yeah, we totally catch your drift - you're using "left" as a euphemism for "gay". Clever. But what about "gaymers" who want to go Left, C, Right, Up, Down, A, A, B, Left? Also known as post-op tranny women who like to get cum on while pretending to still be a man?

Shit, you gaymers are so narrow minded!

A Bit of Animated "Deceptacon" Fun, Anyone?

Wow. We've been huge fans of Le Tigre since their 1999 electro-fueled self-titled debut. We can't count how many times we've heard "Deceptacon" since then, but it's probably in the triple digits.

While we didn't think we could ever like it more, watching Jem and her holographic friends perform the song makes it seem like new again.

Although, we can't help but wonder what JD Samson and the kids would say about being transposed onto such glam, animated girls. We hope they approve. We sure as hell do.

(PS: Bonus points if you can name Jem's drummer. She's always been our favorite.)

Real Boys Like Video Game Character

We're not big gamers ourselves, but we whole-heartedly support gamers (we're all part of the nerd brotherhood, you know), especially when they send us clips of their video game alter-egos getting down on some pixilated homo action.

This particular clip comes from our friends over at Gay Gamer, you know: the site for "boys who like boys who like joysticks" (yeah, really clever, that).

Anyway, in Rock Star Games' controversial new offering, Bully, you not only get the chance to beat the tar out of school yard hooligans, but there are also four different homos who are more than willing to lock lips. Not above virtual love, the Gay Gamers fell in love with a nice, video casanova, who boasts that he's "such a player" and asks if he's "a totally awesome kisser." Sounds like a real winner.

It's too bad this particular virtual homo didn't fall as hard. A GG writes:

I was shocked later, when I went into the town near the school, to find my blonde hunk holding hands with a red haired jock while waiting in line for the movies. Needless to say, my heart was broken...

Oh, babe, don't fret - you've got so much more than that stupid boy. Like what? Well, flesh and blood, for starters. Dreams. A reboot button.
